Several years ago

Hazel's POV

I stood still, unable to breathe properly. My heart was beating out of my chest and I tried to make sense of everything while trying to calm my nerves. It took everything I had to focus on getting my breathing under control and slowing my heart rate.

"Wait, did Abigail just say it's her birthday? Like, today's her actual birthday?” I asked in my head, still trying to connect the little pieces together.

'no it can't be' I shook my head violently, images flashing before my eyes.

“Hazel, what the heck happened?! You just shattered my favorite glass into a million pieces!” Abigail got up from the bed and walked closer but I gestured with my hands for her to stay put.

She gave me a funny look, like she couldn't figure out why I was acting so weird all of a sudden. Her eyebrow was raised up, and I could tell she was totally confused by my sudden change in behavior.

I quickly racked my brain for an excuse, trying not to sound too suspicious.
