Oliver's POV
I have been in the darkness far too long that I can endure. Investigating the case of my own niece's death. My aunt has been holed up in her home, most of the time, she doesn't even want to acceppt guest. The pain of loosing her only granddaughter is unbearable.
Since Mildred was abducted, I never had the peace of mind. Searching for her all day, thinking about her all night. Only to find out that she's been brutally murdered just like all those other young woman. Every day that passes, that pain eats away in heart. The feeling of disappointment, frustration, and the knowledge that I was not good enough to protect my own blood.
"Son, how are you?" I looked up at my mother who's standing by my bedroom door.
"I'm not doing good, mom. Hell, I don't even know what I'm doing. I couldn't save any of those girls. I couldn't save my niece."
"Oli, the deaths of those women, nor Mildred's is your fault. That serial killer took her away from us.
Three more victims in the last two weeks. All citizens of Burton Grove, all female, within the age of nineteen to twenty-five. Each of them are considered as rising stars in their own field. All beautiful, young women, with promising future. All of them died the most horrible way possible. Slaughtered like animals. Beaten without mercy. How could someone be so cruel, and heartless? Those are the questions that has been bugging Oliver's mind since the killing started. How he miss those days when everyone can simply roam around. When the streets of Burton Grove was still safe. Now, no one wants to walk alone. Parents are guarding their daughters almost twenty-four hours. Social gatherings are banned until the serial killer was found, as well as the curfew. But, to make the situation much worst, Oliver's auntie fell ill. Her health diminished drastically, and now, she's back at th hospital. This situation added to Oliver's depression. Going back and forth from police stat
My Sunday, that is supposed to be dedicated for my family has been occupied, and taken away by my job once again. This is the fourth Sunday that I had to be at work. Dead bodies keep showing up. Worst part is, those dead bodies don't just show up at the reservoir anymore. They are showing up everywhere. Behind the school, at the side of the church, corner of a street, the high bridge, and the city hall. The serial killer is getting bolder, and bolder, and we are all chasing our own tails trying to find him. I'm losing my mind looking for a clue, or anything that could help us. The only good thing that came out of this situation is that I get to bond with my father more often. He's well-educated about serial killers, for he prosecuted many during his time. If anyone can help me and teach me about the things I have to learn about serial killers that I never did in the academy, it will be from my father. He's the only one that I can come to right now."Dad, I'm los
I never doubted my capacity as a detective. Whenever there is a problem, or a difficult case, all I have to tell myself is that I can do it. That I am a good detective. But, when the serial killing started, I lost my self-confidence little by little. The idea of the realization that I can't protect my family terrifies me so much.No one knew about the real reason why I wanted to be a detective. I didn't even tell Oliver about it. Not because I just don't want him to know. But, because I couldn't get myself to talk about it.-Flashback-It was the spring break, and I thought that since my family had a very different idea than what I actually wanted. So instead of staying at home, while they visited Melissa's favorite place. I packed my tent, and my camping gear. Oliver and I has been camping together since we were six.The wooded area of Burton Grove is not too far from our house, so our parents allowed us. Oliver's family took to a short vacation, so I ha
My days were never the same since Oliver, and I had a fight. He doesn't even look at him whenever his around. For the last twenty-five years of our friendship, we never fought this bad. We may have some disagreements, but never like this. In the past, Oliver would always try to understand why I did the things that I've done."Chris, what's happening between you, and Oliver? I saw him at the gas station, and he didn't even asked for you.""Nothing, Mel. No problem."I wanted to get away from my little sister, because she would never stop questioning me. Even she doesn't know about the incident that happened to him, not even their parents. His psychiatrist agreed with his condition not to tell his parents about what really caused his trauma."Uh, no. That's not good enough. You clearly are sad, and I can't help you if you won't talk to me.""There is nothing to talk about, Melissa. So, go away.""Please, Mel. Just go away. Can't you see? I'm w
Things between me and Oliver are getting worst. I tried to talk to him a couple of times, but nothing worked. He would avoid, would not even look at me, and the worst part is, he requested a new partner.I admit that I was hurt, but I will give him the satisfaction of seeing how it affected me. He wanted a new partner, so I got a new partner myself. But, when Melissa found out about it, she called both us idiots, that we are both making a huge mistake. I can't say that I don't agree with her, but I can't just swallow my pride after his accusations about how I am neglecting my job."Look what the cat drag in. Detective Chris Angeles, Burton Grove's most incompetent detective. You know, it's not the townspeople who should be moving out of town. It should be you, who should get out of here. This town doesn't you, you know. Because you are useless."Hearing the sound of that voice makes me want to murder the man talking beside me. I tried to calm myself, so I decide
Half of the citizens of Burton Grove left in fear of the serial killer that still roaming around the city freely. No one can figure out who he is, or what his motive is. Despite our efforts, we are still clueless of what really happened. Who would have thought that a quiet, and peaceful city like ours would experience something like this.I grew up in this city, and I've seen its ups and downs. Our town almost got wiped out because of the strongest storm ever recorded in our region. Ten years ago, a magnitude 8.6 earthquake destroyed our town. But, we always survive and get back on our feet. No matter what comes our way,we always get back to our feet. But, if this whole serial killer situation continues, it's not impossible for Burton Grove to end up as a ghost town. Forgotten, and dubbed as cursed town,, just like the other towns in some parts of the region."Chris, look at this. There's something different about the slash on her neck." I was busy checking things on m
After catching the copycat killers, we realized that they never intended to kill the victim. She has happened to catch them while breaking and entering into a house that happened to be owned by the victim's friend. They panicked when they saw her, and started beating her. When she lost consciousness, they thought that since she saw her, they can't let her live.Jerry, and Bill are the sons of two of the most respected men in Burton Grove. They are both black sheeps of their family. And, they can't afford to bring anymore shame to their family. That's why they needed to kill him. They thought that making it look like the work of the serial killer, and they can just get way with it."Grayson, what's up?" I just arrive at the station when I noticed everyone staring an open box placed on top of one of the officers' desk."Hey, man. You have to see this."Grayson's tone of voice is suspicious. He's not on his usual cheery mood. Same as with everyone of their c
Another body was found. Only this time, the body was found on the next town. She only identified easily because one of the police officers recognized her. Her name was Jane Allens, a twenty-five-year-old woman. An opera soprano, who was famous in the region. She's been a famous opera singer since she was nineteen.Jane was able to build a name for herself because of her unique voice, and technique. In just a few years, she was able to build her own house, and acquire wealth for herself. So many theatre managers, and talent scouts."Chis, Jane's another victim of the serial killer. Body, the crime scene, everything's clean. No trace of DNA, nothing. This is definitely the work of the serial killer." I just arrived at the police station when Grayson welcome me with the news of another victim."Damn it, what else do we have?" My day just started, and it's already going bad."Victim was found on Gilden. The scene was almost identical to all the crime scenes,
