3• IN A MESS

KATNISS

Minutes passed but I was still speechless and shocked. Everyone was staring at me, waiting for me to say something. But what do I say?!

Right in front of me were two guys who looked just the same and I couldn't easily figure out which of them was the guy I've loved all my life and which was the stranger.

"Kat," Rex grabbed my hand, wearing that gummy smile of his. It was the only way to convince me that it was really him. "You should say something."

"You – you have a brother?" I stuttered, still staring at the guy. Funny enough, he was staring right back at me.

Not in a normal, surprising, and innocent stare. But in a heated, dark stare that had my insides twisting in panic. His blue eyes had a yellow glint in them that made those pairs the weirdest eyes I'd ever seen.

Blue eyes. Oh, My God! Blue eyes!

"Yeah, I do have a brother. He's my twin brother. I'm sorry I never mentioned it. We all thought we could surprise you with him." Rex explained but I was on the verge of losing my mind. I could barely wrap my head around his words.

Blue eyes. Dark hair tousled to the front. No, right now, it was sleek and permed to the back, just a strand dangled in his oval, shaped face. He was a buff guy, a little more than Rex, and his face had a strong creased line that ran from his forehead to between his full brows. It gave him a menacing look. He was roughly 7'2 or 7'1, almost the same height as Rex. Just a bit taller.

His short-sleeved shirt displayed the crazy, horrific tattoos that covered his arms. Diamond chains ran down his neck and lingered on his chest. His fingers were adorned with rings, and his ears had a couple too. His face was clean, with no stubs, no beards. But it was taut and could freak anyone out.

"Say hi to her, son." Alpha Vicenzo said, and I snapped out of my wallowing thoughts.

"Good to finally meet you, Katniss." Holy shit, his voice. It was nothing like Rex's. It was deep. Guttural. Blood-curdling.

Rex had a deep baritone but in a soothing way. How the hell were they both alike and yet so different?

"Kat," Rex nudged me, bringing me back to consciousness.

"Huh?" I turned to him. He gestured at something and I turned front, to see a hand stretched out to me.

It was his hand. Rex's twin brother. He had his hand stretched for a shake.

With a gulp, I struggled to bring my hand to his, and he grabbed it.

To everyone, it was a normal handshake. But something about the way he grabbed my hand, sticking his nails into my skin made me give an abrupt gasp.

My gaze met him again and this time, he gave a lopsided smile before letting go of my hand.

"Let me show you to your room, Kat." Rex broke the silence, grabbing my hand and heading for the stairs. "I had it ready at dawn. I hope you like it."

"You kids have fun. But don't forget, we'll be having our first dinner in a few hours. I expect to see you all there." Alpha Vicenzo informed.

"Don't worry, Father. Kat and I will be there, right, Kat?" Rex asked, flashing me a smile.

"Uh – sure. Yeah." Halfway up the stairs, I couldn't resist the urge to turn around. And just like I thought, he was still staring at me. Him – Max Luciano. Mum was standing next to him.

"Please, forgive my daughter's attitude earlier. I think she was too surprised by your striking resemblance with Rex. It's nothing personal." She said to him, but he wasn't even looking at her.

He had his eyes on me, and as much as it was rude to ignore my Mum like that, I was still flushed by his unwavering stare.

Finally, he looked away and was saying something to Mum. I couldn't hear them 'cause Rex already pulled me into a room. My room.

"Do you like it?" He asked as we got in.

I looked around. It was a purple-themed room and had pictures of my favorite artist, Taylor Swift, scattered on the walls. It was everything I dreamed to have in a room.

"Yeah, it's nice." Sadly, my excitement couldn't be heard in my voice. Meeting that guy earlier still had me dazed.

"Listen, Kat." Rex grabbed my hands, pulling me closer to him. "About your birthday, I'm sorry I couldn't make it…."

"Did you go over to Arianna's party?" I asked. It bothered me so much that I needed to know the answer.

"What? Fuck, no. Why would you think that?" He chuckled, "I would never ditch your birthday for any party, no matter how crazy it might be."

"So what happened?" I was past the stage of being upset. I just wanted to know why he didn't show up. His absence had hurt me so much that I thought my heart would explode. A logical explanation would help put my mind at ease.

"Something came up." His expression changed and his voice had a depth in it. "My brother arrived in the Pack that day. I had to go pick him up. It's a long story." He chuckled again, but it lacked humor.

I recalled the kiss we shared and maybe this was the perfect time to discuss it.

"I'm so sorry about what I did at the nightclub…"

"Nightclub?" He repeated with a raised brow. "What were you doing at the nightclub, Kat?"

"What?" I was stunned by his question and even more by the confusion in his eyes. "I went with Eva. You were also in the nightclub. You saw us…"

"What are you talking about, Kat? I didn't go to the nightclub that night. Told you I was searching for my brother."

Horror erupted within me and I slowly pulled my hand away from him. I turned my back to him, trying to analyze the situation.

"Where – where did you find your brother that night?" It was a question I dreaded knowing the answer but at the same time, I needed the answer to be sure. Goddess help me let my suspicion not be correct.

"Saw him gallivanting the streets. Like I said, it's a long fucking story, with fucked up details." He replied with a bit of irritation and then added. "But he reeked of whiskey. And he did say something about visiting the nightclub."

Oh, My God. What have I done?

"Kat, is there a problem?"

"I wanna be alone, Rex. Please." Tears were already clogging my vision so I couldn't turn to look at him.

"You sure? I could help you unpack–"

"No, please. I wanna be alone." I repeated more firmly this time.

"Alright. Let me know when you need me." He said and then left the room.

I slumped on the bed, as it all dawned on me. My wildness that night had made me unable to pick up the little details. I should have known he wasn't Rex. I should have known he wasn't the guy I'd always loved. I kissed the wrong guy!

What do I do now? How do I undo this mess?!
