The principal took the envelope.

"Your friend saved you, student Orleans," he said. "You're very lucky, feel fortunate."

Elijah heard the principal's voice from a distance. His heart was beating so fast that he could even hear it in his ears. He hadn't seen her in days, and seeing her there as if nothing had happened was affecting him. He couldn't take his eyes off her; she was still as beautiful as ever. He wanted to hug her, to kiss her completely, but it was something he couldn't do.

He heard nothing more.

Melia, on the other hand, didn't pay attention to anyone else, not even to the pale snow-haired boy - he wanted her to. She only spoke to the principal, and the boys sighed in her presence. (Something that never seems to change, apparently.) Elijah couldn't stop looking at her.
