I jolted awake in a murky pond, my entire body aching and stiff. My vision was blurred, and my head was pounding, but I summoned all my strength to rise to my feet. The surroundings were pitch black, but I rummaged through my pockets and stumbled upon my lifesaver - my cell phone with a flash light. Lucky for me, I had placed it in a plastic bag, which saved it from being damaged by the water.

As I switched on the light, I squinted at my phone, “It’s already 12 in the midnight ... but where the devil am I?”

I clamped my mouth shut as I laid my eyes on the young girl, lying still, not far from me. Struggling to my feet, I stumbled over to check on her condition.

“Oh dear, little one. Are you alright?” I said, trying to rouse her.

But as I checked for a pulse, my heart sank. The young girl was gone. The realization washed over me with a mixture of emotions, leaving me sitting there, dazed, and confused.
