Chapter 15: An Omen

Layla could not touch the people in her dreams, nor could they see her.

Unsure of why she was here, she also didn't know how to escape. Layla could only continue to observe this strange dream.

However, one thing caught her attention. She was consistently pulled along by an invisible force, linked to a mother wolf and her cub.

She had once tried to leave, but discovered she could only get as far away as the distance equivalent to that of a century-old tree.

Would something happen to them? Or perhaps… were the mother and child trying to send her a message through their dreams?

As Layla followed the everyday steps of the little wolf named Han and his mother, she pondered.

She saw them living happily together, with friendly neighbors in a peaceful and warm community.

Then…

She saw the woman's husband return.

He arrived, bloodied and wounded, leaning against his wife. Ignoring the woman’s worried inquiries and her cries of pain, he didn't utter a word as she trembled while bandaging his wounds.

Layla frowned, unsure if she was just being sensitive or overthinking. But there was something truly strange about that man.

She observed them closely. Everything seemed normal, as if all her worries were just her imagination.

However… at that moment, a change occurred.

The typically silent man suddenly stirred when he heard his son's voice.

"Dad! Dad… it doesn't hurt! Han will blow the pain away. You won't feel the pain anymore..."

The little wolf had transformed into a lovely boy. No longer bearing his usual cheerful expression, he likely feared for his severely injured father. Still, the boy tried to comfort him with his tender voice.

This should have been a picture of family happiness.

But…

As soon as the boy finished speaking, a slicing wind howled past his face.

Boom!!!

The door behind the boy was shattered by a tremendous force, ultimately crashing down to the ground.

The woman, noticing something off about her husband, quickly ran to her son and held him tight. Her normally gentle eyes were now wide with terror. She stammered:

"..., stop! He's our son!"

Layla's brows furrowed tightly; she couldn't hear that word. Was it the man’s name? Why couldn't she hear it?

The man seemed to no longer hear his wife’s voice; he looked up, revealing a face dark as night with two brightly red eye sockets.

That was…

Suddenly, Layla's eyes snapped open.

She gasped in shock for a moment. The instant she saw that man, she seemed to recall something… but now, she could not remember anything at all.

A thought flashed through her mind that someone had prevented her from remembering something.

But who could it be?

In this world, could there truly be powers beyond human comprehension?

She did not know. Layla had never felt as helpless as she did at this moment.

Weary, she shook her small, fluffy head. Then, Layla sensed that something was not quite right…

After taking a closer look at her current situation, Layla was astonished to find herself in the strong embrace of someone’s chest. Following that was the rough hand of the man who claimed to be her owner, ceaselessly stroking her head… judging by the force he used, it seemed that the man was angry.

Indeed, Bridget was holding her while sitting on a black wooden chair, not far from two men lying prostrate on the ground. The smell of blood reaching Layla’s nose helped her realize… those two had also been significantly injured.

Seeing two faces that were not familiar yet not entirely strange, she wondered what had happened.

Layla’s head-shaking motion made Bridget immediately recognize his little wolf. The anger in his heart momentarily subsided by more than half.

It should be noted that since bringing this mischievous pet back to the tribe, the little wolf had been sleeping soundly for the past two days. If Bridget had not meticulously checked every hair of the wolf cub, confirming it had no injuries… he might have worried himself to death.

He had never known that he could care so much about another living being besides himself, even though it was just a pet without a spirit.

He was growing impatient waiting for the little wolf to wake up. Because in these two days, his gloomy face had frightened people, so his subordinates quickly brought evidence proving Alex and his companion had disobeyed his orders, not only that but they had also engaged in actions detrimental to the tribe.

Indeed, before these two foolish men had purposely chased away the wolf cub, they had embezzled the tribe’s frozen supplies, trading them to a neighboring tribe in exchange for energy stones.

The neighboring tribe, known as the Jade Stone Tribe, was not one of the four key tribes in the region. However, they were highly sought after because they established their tribe near an energy stone mine. A magical kind of energy stone that could be used to manufacture high-level weapons.

Bridget had also been interested in that miraculous stone. But at that time, the chief of the Jade Stone Tribe wanted him to become partners with his daughter before agreeing to trade energy stones with Bridget’s tribe. At that time, the elderly tribe elders incessantly urged him to agree, only elder Paul stayed out of this matter. It made sense, his daughter Helen had always been secretly in love with Bridget; how could she accept seeing the man she loved with another partner? As a father who loves his daughter, it was clear that elder Paul would not agree, and besides, having his daughter marry the tribe chief would ultimately benefit him the most!

Everyone calculated their own benefits, but Bridget refused to become partnered with anyone. This caused the chief of the Jade Stone Tribe to be furious, directly abandoning the alliance with the Northern Tribe.

That might be an unpleasant outcome, but for Bridget, strength must originate from oneself. If one is not strong enough, even the finest weapons are just trash. Conversely, if he is strong enough, even with a blunt knife in hand, he can turn it into a powerful weapon.

Because of Bridget’s strength, when the Northern Tribe and the Jade Stone Tribe became enemies, his tribe members did not dare to speak out or criticize. For when Bridget caused them to lose an advantage, surely their leader would bring something else to compensate them.

Following such a talented leader was also a form of happiness for them.
