As it turned out, Marcus' idea of "starting over" was to pursue me and patiently wait for me to fall in love with him once more.

Since he didn't seem to mind that I would eventually marry Arthur, I saw no reason to object either.

It was a public holiday that day, and I decided to stay at home and work remotely.

Dressed in a silk nightdress, I comfortably curled up on the sofa to tend to some paperwork, feeling rather lazy.

The phone rang and I picked it up without even looking at the caller ID.

"Shall we go out for dinner?"

"No." I frowned and refused, only to realize the call was from Marcus.

After a moment of silence, I spoke up again to make an excuse, "I'm catching a cold, feeling dizzy."

"Have you taken any medicine?"

The series of lies made me sound a little guilty as I said, "Yes, I have."

He hung up after saying nothing more than, "Have a good rest.
