PIETRO
I took a deep breath to calm my nerves when I finally arrived home. Pericles and I were supposed to go directly to the office when our conversation in the car led to another.Since I had given him my word, I told him to drop me at the house instead and that he must go to the office first without me.Pericles couldn't hide the satisfaction on his face when he gave me a proud look after dropping me off the car.Weirded by the stare he gave me, I turned around and ignored him instead. My palms turned sweaty, and my heart started beating erratically in my chest as I faced the mansion where Lucrezia and I lived.I still haven't entered yet. I still haven't seen Lucrezia or opened my mouth to say what I had to say. Yet, I'm already feeling so nervous, as if I were going to the police to confess that I'm a murderer.I never thought that this would be a big deal to me, not until I was already standing here.I entered the house, expecting toLUCREZIA“What is wrong with me?!” I groaned loudly in the dining room as I burrowed my hands in my hair and dropped my forehead on the table. My mind couldn’t stop drifting off to what happened yesterday between me and Pietro. For some reason, I was deeply bothered by how the conversation went between us.I couldn’t remove the look on Pietro’s face when he said words that couldn’t make sense to me. He looked hurt like my words had pierced through his heart. I shut my eyes tight and shook my hair as if that would help in removing the thoughts from my head. I raised my head back up again with a scowl on my face, leaving my hair in a huge mess that could be a great substitute for a bird’s nest.I’m glad that I am alone in this house, or else they would have mistaken me as someone who escaped the asylum. They would have thought that I had gone crazy, mumbling to myself and groaning loudly all by myself. Why did Pietro ask me such questions? Why did P
LUCREZIAI solemnly nodded my head when I heard Agrippa’s words. I’m happy for her that she finally found the courage to fight for herself and not let her husband continue in his cheating ways. Even though Agrippa and Orenzio got married because of a family arrangement, Orenzio shouldn’t be cheating on his wife just because they had a loveless marriage. Orenzio made his vows at the altar, he should be true to his words, he should respect Agrippa not just because she is his wife, but because he is a man and she is a woman. Wherever you look at it, Orenzio is at the wrong here.I’m glad that even though Pietro and I got married just because of the benefits, he never had any women other than me. I’m glad that he respects me and the vow that he made at the altar in front of my family and inside the whole congregation. I don’t know how I would be able to handle it if I found out that Pietro loves someone else and he is choosing her over his own wife.
LUCREZIA“Don’t be so nervous, we are not even there yet,” I whispered to Agrippa seeing how her fingers were trembling beside me. We are inside Agrippa’s car on our way to their great family mansion where only Don Leuzzi and her wife lives along with their house servants.Orenzio and Agrippa lives at a different place that is equally huge as her in laws mansion with their children. Since Orenzio already had a family of his own, he had to live separately from his parents house. Since we are using Agrippa’s car, Agrippa’s driver also drove for us while we both sat together at the backseat. Agrippa has been silent the whole time, and I don’t know what else to do to comfort her.I reached out to hold Agrippa’s hands to help her calm her nerves, however, Agrippa pulled her hand away when she saw me trying to reach out to her.Her ice cold fingers brushed with mine, chilling my fingertips. She is so nervous that her fingers had turned as cold as ice.
LUCREZIADon Leuzzi was not pleased at the gifts that Agrippa gave him. As he placed the box of tobacco aside, Tiburzio stared at Agrippa with a frown on his face. “These things are expensive,” Tiburzio Leuzzi spitted out. “You shouldn’t be wasting my son’s money on these expensive gifts.” I gritted my teeth when I heard Tiburzio Leuzzi’s response. This isn’t the kind of response I expected from him. Agrippa said that he specifically like this brand of tobaccos. I even spent large amount of money on them just so he wouldn’t have anything bad to say about Agrippa’s gift. Yet, he still wasn’t grateful for it. Is it really that hard to just keep your mouth shut when you have nothing good to say? He doesn’t have to give us a simple thank you if he really did not like it. His silence could suffice.Agrippa lowered her head in shame when Tiburzio spoke. She turned even more nervous because of Don Leuzzi’s indifferent response. Agrippa bit her lip and clutched o
LUCREZIAAt that time, I didn’t care. I didn’t care if Tiburzio would be so offended with my words. I don’t care if my next actions would a start a war against the crime families. I didn’t care if Pietro would also suffer with my actions. At that time, all I wanted is to teach Leuzzi a lesson and put him on his place. I don’t care if I’m overstepping my boundaries. This is their family issue, and I have nothing to do with this, but how can I just sit still and let him insult Agrippa as if I weren’t around?Agrippa was being nice to him. Despite of his insults and his awful words, Agrippa still managed to stay calm and stop herself from doing things she might have regret. However, Agrippa and I are different from each other. I am the kind of person that speaks what is in her mind. I was about to give Tiburzio a loud yelling when Agrippa held my arm and pulled me down. My butt hit the chair so hard at the strong force that Agrippa used on me. I glared at her, angry at her for stoppi
LUCREZIAAgrippa stared at me with her brows knotted together. She searched into my eyes, but all she saw was stubbornness and determination. She opened her lips about to argue, but only a sigh escaped her mouth. A hint of regret flashed momentarily in her eyes. She must have regretted inviting me to come with her. Not only did I have to witness how things went between her and her in-laws, but she also put me in a risky situation.Don Leuzzi and I almost got into a heated argument that would have placed the mafias into war. Agrippa wouldn't help but feel responsible if something like that happened. After all, it was she who pulled me into this. "Let him be," Agrippa spoke calmly. "You already saw how the conversation went. There is no point in trying to talk to him again." Agrippa grabbed my hand and tried to drag me from her behind, but I stood firm on my ground and harshly pulled my arm from her. Agrippa's eyes widened as she turned around to face
LUCREZIAMy brows furrowed, not understanding the words spewing out of his mouth. I took a step back as I observed his face burning red in anger. He stared at me with loathing in his eyes. I don’t understand what I did for me to deserve such hate from him. “Don Leuzzi… A-are you all right?” I asked deeply worried. I took a step nearer him, feeling that there is something wrong. With furrowed eyebrows I stared into him. Although he is already right in front of me, I couldn’t see him inside of him. It was as if a different spirit had possessed him, taking over his body. As he stared at me with that hateful look in his eyes, I realized he hadn’t recognize me. I think he is out of himself. He mistook me for a different person. “Where is Orenzio?! Instead of standing around here doing nothing, you should be focusing on taking care of our son. He is not getting good grades because you don’t take your job as his mother more seriously.” My eyes went wide and I
LUCREZIA“Where have you been?” Pietro asked again, ignoring my words. He is sitting on the couch staring at me intently. I don’t know how long he has been sitting there thinking where I was. He could have called me in my phone if he was actually worried and wondering where I was. I sighed tiredly as I removed my bag off my shoulder. I don’t know why, but seeing Pietro immediately made my body feel so tired. I’m not in the mood to face him and even more so, talk to him. “I’m not going to cook dinner today. You can ask our maids to cook it for you or you can also just have your food delivered. I’m not hungry, so I’m skipping dinner.” I spoke tiredly without looking at him. I was busy taking off my shoes and my socks. After I was done, I walked past him to directly go up the stairs.“Is there something wrong?” Pietro asked, making me stop and turn around to look at him.Pietro has now stood up from the couch, facing me with the same serious expression on his face. For some reason,
