Three months later

Three months later, a figure lying in the cold somehow abandoned room slowly gained consciousness as her eyes flattered before she opened them up slowly adjusting to the bright light of the room. She glanced around at the surrounding and realized that she was at what seemed like a hospital. She tried to get up but her body seemed glued to the bed, she couldn't move an inch.

She felt a kind of emptiness that she couldn't explain. Trying to remember what happened, her mind seemed to be blank as she couldn't make a tail whatever it was that was going on with her. There was this void in her that she couldn't explain.

She opened her mouth to call someone, but her lips cracked in pain and her voice coarse that not a single sound escaped her lips. If she could only get a glass of water. Zia lay there staring into the space helplessly . She tried to remember anything, but nothing came forth, everything was just total darkness.

At the next room two figures sat quietly facing each other. One of them however was filled with anger, he was helpless.

" Caleb please, do something for her, she can't stay that way, you have to wake her up,"

"Cai, we've been through this over and again for the past three months. I suggest you go back to your life if you don't have the kind of patience needed for this job. Anyways what would you do when she wakes up, will you tell her everything?"

" I'll do whatever necessary for my sister, after all it was I who had caused her all these,"

" You mean it was you that had her hit by a car,"

" Forget it," Cai said and picked up a lab coat from the chair and headed out. It felt suddenly cold for him and he needed to return home to get some sleep. The entire night he had spent by her side, hoping that she would open her eyes, but it was as though life had seeped out of her. It had rained pretty hard in the middle of the forested area they had previously transferred her to, and he couldn't wait for her to finally get out of that godforsaken place.

Cai stopped by the window to have one last glance at her. She was still lying there, quiet, not knowing the cruel world she lived in, the one in which they had taken away everything from her. Her life, her child and the only love of her life. Cai made a step to go away when he noticed something, there was a slight movement on the sheets that covered her. Hurriedly he pushed the door opened and rushed to her side. Her eyes were wide opened.

Cai leaned over to her and extended his arm to touch her, only to notice her struggle to speak. She extended her arm and pointed towards an empty glass on the table.

" You want water?"

Zia nodded, her voice was gone.

Cai who thought she might get back to the endless dream rushed out in a second and almost knocked over Caleb who just got off the room. Cai shot past him into the room and poured a glass of water which he carried back, spilling over its contents as he ran.

Caleb was already examining her when Cai appeared with a glass of water which she immediately took.

" Doctor what's wrong with me, why can't I move my body?" Zia asked finding her voice after the water smoothened her coarse dry voice.

That was when Cai realized that she had mistaken him for a doctor due to his coat. He staggered back as Caleb moved forward to speak to her. She really forgot everything.

" Do you remember anything? Your name?" Caleb asked.

Zia stared into the empty space trying to rake her brain but nothing, she couldn't remember who she is. She shook her head in denial.

" Zia, that was the name you mentioned when you where brought in here, you lost consciousness after that," Caleb said glancing at Cai who had a dissaproving look on his face. It would be better if she forgot everything, he wouldn't know how to approach her otherwise.

"Zia..." She called out her name and smiled, it seemed so sweet on her lips.

" What happened to me doctor? Why am I here?"

" You were brought in here three months ago after you suffered an accident. Ever since you have been unconscious,"

" I've been here for three months! And my family where are they, did anyone come to see me?"

Cai and Caleb glanced at each other before Cai stepped forward.

" I'm sorry miss, but it seemed as though you were all alone, no one has come to see you ever since. It was just us who took care of you,"

Zia felt pained in her heart. Did she really have no one to care about her, someone who would be looking for her after she went missing. She stayed quiet as she stared into the empty space lost in her empty world. She was just an empty useless shell, why couldn't she remember anything.

" You should not force yourself to remember anything, you might hurt yourself. Let me examine you further to ensure that you are okay,"

Zia lay there, quiet and lost, the words spoken by Caleb seemed like passing wind to her, she let him do whatever he wanted with her.

Cai got out of the room and wiped off the imaginary sweat from his face before he took out his mobile.

" She is awake," he reported.

" Did she say anything? Does she remember what happened?"

" No Asriel, she didn't remember a thing, not even her name,"

" That's better, I hope you don't lose your mind and talk nonsense to her. Please stay clear of her, she can't know the truth, at least not now,"

" Why don't we just tell her the truth, won't it be so cruel to let her live as though she had nobody,"

" What you just said is true, she has no family left to go back to, a brother who got involved with her husband and a sister who took away everything from her. Don't you think this is a little bit too much for her to take in, added to the fact that she lost her child, and that someone is out there ready to kill her,"

Cai stayed quiet, that would be a lot for her to take. It was better if she started her life new. Cai believed she could do it, it was better than all the pain that was in her past life, besides he wouldn't know how to face her with the truth.

Cai knew that he hadn't been a good brother and this was maybe him pretending again. Asriel had searched for the one who tried to kill her with no success, yet he had chosen to protect her sister Zichi from the then blood thirsty Asriel. He was worse than all of them, and he couldn't continue to pretend that it was him that was after her welfare.

Back in the room Caleb was done with all the tests that he had carried on her, he was amazed that she was all healed up, his procedure too had been successful, having wiped off her memory completely.

" You are all good now, but I suggest that you take your time to regain your reflexes. You could leave the next day,"

It was then that Zia realized that she didn't know her home or where she was at, where would she go to once she left since she had no family.

" I can help you with somewhere to stay while you figure out where your family is and maybe remember everything,"

" I can't impose on you doctor, you have taken care of me for the past three months. Besides I'm sure I won't be able to pay for my hospital expenses, maybe you'll detain me here till I cleared all the bills,"

" You don't have to worry about that, the person who had you hit payed for your medical expenses. I have an old apartment where you could live while trying to find yourself, you can pay for the rent later after you get a job. That way you won't feel so much of a burden,"

" I don't know what to say doctor,"

" You can call me Caleb. I'm really for what you went through, I'm sure it's tough not knowing who you are and everything else, but I hope you'll regain your memory soon. Otherwise I'm here to help with whatever you need, just speak to me about it, okay,"

Zia nodded in agreement, at least he knew one person in this world who seemed to care for her. What life awaited her out there she couldn't tell.

Asriel on the other hand didn't rest easy, after finding out that they had told her a name, he ensured that everything that touched on her had been wiped off, no matter where she searched, she couldn't find anything or anyone with a name similar to hers. It would be a dead search till she gave up. Asriel had double checked it by himself to ensure that there wasn't any loose ends that might give her a clue.

The three months had been the hardest for him. Asriel realized that in as much as he liked Cai, he was not so much into other men, but Zia had almost turned his world upside down, dreaming of her smiling down at him almost every night. Asriel would see her almost everywhere he turned to. She was definitely a pure soul that had made him fall in love, one that had gone against his principles. In the end he still loved her, yet there were risks that as a business man he wouldn't take. A stone heart is what was required for the corporate world.

Asriel sighed loudly as he dropped the laptop and adjusted his tie. His meeting would be in thirty minutes time, yet he seemed to have been deprived of sleep, exhausted after learning of her coming back to life.

He stood up and tidied his blue suit that fitted him perfectly as he ran his fingers through his jet black hair. He then made slow but sure strides towards the room attached to his office. He opened a bottle of whiskey which he gobbled from the bottle before he stared at his image on the mirror.

He had recently trimmed his beards, his side whiskers perfect and neatly kept. Life had to go on with or without her. Love couldn't always put food on his table. That had been his principle for the past three months, especially when Cai was cold towards his advances. He had to live on.
