“Adam, you need to hide!” I whispered.

I jumped up and firmly grasped his shoulder, forcing him to look me in the eye as he was about to rise and greet Aiden. I could sense his hesitation, yet I needed him to understand the gravity of this situation. His eyes darted around the room before settling on mine, a furrow appearing in his brow. My grip on his shoulder tightened slightly as I spoke - slowly and clearly enunciating each word for emphasis - hoping he would catch my meaning.

He blinks at me, unable to comprehend what I just said. “W-what? Why-”

Before Adam could even finish what he was saying, I sprang from the bed and firmly guided him towards the tall wooden cabinet. Just as I opened it up to push him inside, I looked into his eyes pleadingly, silently asking for him to let me do this without any fuss.
