58: What's Wrong with a Misunderstanding?

Moonlight poured down, casting a hazy glow. Lizzie, drained from a day's work, stepped out of the upscale hotel. A gust of chilly wind made her slender figure shiver. Checking the time, she realized it was already past ten at night. The buses must have stopped running. Bundling up in her coat, she started to walk briskly towards her apartment.

Almost half an hour later, she finally arrived at her apartment. The grand room was still shrouded in darkness. Bathed in the faint moonlight, Lizzie let her weary body sink into the soft couch. It had been several days of working part-time right after her classes until ten at night. Although she was exhausted, she felt a sense of fulfillment.

Bruno seemed to have disappeared recently, not returning to the apartment. Perhaps he was too busy, or on a business trip, or perhaps he was nestled in the arms of another woman. Lizzie knew this was his apartment, but it was merely a refuge for her, not a home for either of them.
