“Alex?” Josh called the emotions in his tone causing Alex to jolt awake.

What was happening? Why was Josh looking straight at him and holding him up? Why could he move his tongue around and actually taste something even if it was the wretched morning breath?

“You can see me?” Alex choked, the lack of moisture causing his voice to scratch at his throat. His fingers twitched slightly, getting him to look down at them, the shock finally setting in.

Whilst still staring down at his bony fingers, Josh had managed to retrieve a glass of water, passing it to Alex who stared at it, his gaze bewildered. He then looked up at Josh who slowly had a smile spreading onto his face.

The glass of water looked so tempting, his mouth calling out for any liquid but alas his hands sat on his lap, utterly useless. He couldn’t even communicate his problem to Josh since his voice had no vigor.
