Chapter 27

The loud honking of a car downstairs traveled through my ears, causing me to open my eyes as I stared into the rays flooding in from the window. My room was quiet. The breeze was soothingly generous. And it was morning. Feeling so tired, I sank back into my pillow and groaned. I already recalled all of the events of the previous evening, and I felt the ache in my heart.

When I remembered that I had just heard a honk, I swiftly sprung off the bed and found myself by the window. Most times, I liked to watch him drive away to work, and I had no idea why. I was right on time to see the car that Ian drove move through the electronic gate and then out of sight before the gates slowly slid close.
