Chapter 6 Savior

It took a little over an hour before Ivanka arrived at the Barkworth family’s mansion. She felt conflicted.

As soon as they entered the mansion, they heard a cry of excitement. “Iv, my beloved granddaughter-in-law! Come and sit with me. I’ve been longing to see you day and night. Oh, you’re finally here!”

Ivanka’s mask of calm cracked, and she could no longer hide the complicated emotions in her eyes. She forced a smile. “Grandma, I’m sorry. I’ve been busy—”

Before she finished speaking, Rosie Johanson patted her hand gently and said softly, “Say no more. I know of all your troubles.”

Ivanka instinctively looked at Rosie. In her puzzlement, she asked tentatively, “You… know everything?”

That was impossible. If Grandma had known about their divorce, she would not talk to Ivanka in this manner.

Michael also stared at Rosie in puzzlement.

Rosie glared at Michael. Her heart ached for Ivanka as she spoke gently to her, “Yes, I know everything. Mic has absolutely stepped out of line. I selected a good wife for him, but he doesn’t even know how to take good care of you!”

Ivanka continued staring at Rosie in puzzlement as she thought. “She really does know everything?”

Rosie pulled Ivanka down to sit with her and said resolutely, “Don’t worry. If he stays out at night again, I’ll break his legs! I’ll teach him a lesson!”

Ivanka could feel a sting in her eyes. She thought. “Ah, she just thinks that I’m having marriage troubles. She doesn’t know about the divorce.”

After Rosie noticed Michael’s glum expression, she raised her voice at him, “What’s with that expression? Your bad mood is going to ruin my appetite for dinner.”

Michael quickly schooled his expression and turned to Rosie. “I never give anyone attitude.”

“Hmph! Never gives anyone attitude, he says.

“You’re not young anymore, and I want great-grandchildren. You know that not continuing a family bloodline is one of the greatest sin a man can do, don’t you?!”

Grandma sprang up. Ivanka quickly supported her by holding one of her arms.

Michael frowned. He cast a swift glance at Ivanka.

Upon Michael’s return, the servants served the dishes.

Rosie brought Ivanka to the dining table. “Come, let’s have dinner. If he doesn’t want to join us for dinner, he can leave and never come back!”

Michael’s expression darkened. He said nothing and sat cross from them.

Rosie happily piled food onto Ivanka’s plate as if Ivanka was her real granddaughter while Michael was her grandson-in-law.

Ivanka ate the food at complete ease while she conversed with Rosie.

Meanwhile, Michael was left out of the conversation. He took a few bites before he turned to Rosie and asked, “Grandma, why did you ask us to join you for dinner all of a sudden?”

“It’s been a long time since you two came back.” When Rosie looked into Michael’s face, she was reminded of the fact that he did not care for his wife. Anger burned in her as she said, “Can’t you spend some time with me?! Your grandpa is often away on business, and I’m the only one at home. I can’t believe you’d actually ask such a question!”

Michael fell speechless.

He continued eating his food in silence.

Rosie grew increasingly agitated. At the end, she slammed her palms against the table. “No matter what, Iv is your wife, and you should love her! Why do you always go to the hospital and spend time with that b*tch?! You’ve brought shame to our family!”

Michael’s expression darkened. “Grandma, she’s my savior.”

“Your savior?! Even a blind fool can tell that this is part of her scheme!”

Michael frowned. He glared at Ivanka coldly.
