Chapter 43

I play and sing an upbeat love song I wrote for Ace. Everyone gives me a standing ovation; applauding me. Ace approaches me, and kisses me just like he did last year, but this time with his hands on my stomach.

He thanks me, and everyone else for our performances. He then thanks the models and staff who have worked hard this year to put this show together. Holding my hand, we bow in thanks, in the direction of the audience, as they applaud us. Our models join us on stage and we all bow again together. We wave goodbye to everyone and go backstage.

My water breaks, and Ace and I freeze, and stare at the puddle around my feet.

‘I think my water just broke,’ I whisper.

‘I think so, too,’ he whispers. Suddenly, my stomach contracts in pain.
