CHAPTER 005: Do I love him?

“Hey Sofia, are you okay?” Mary asked Sofia who was lost in her thoughts. Immediately Sofia realized Mary was talking to her, so blinked her eyes twice and Said “I think I’m sleepy, I’m going to bed” Sofia said

“Okay, dear good night,” Mary said with a smile on her face.

“Good night,” Sofia said, smiling back at Mary.

Sofia sat on the bed for a long time staring at the ceiling and being lost in her thoughts she kept asking herself “Is it possible?, how and when did I start feeling this way? I barely even know him” Sofia stayed up thinking until she fell asleep.

In the morning, Spencer was at the dining table, taking coffee and toast bread when Dave entered the house looking all disturbed.

“Dave, what’s wrong?” Spencer said while eating

“The head of the event just called and Said there’s a problem.

“What problem?” Spencer said already getting pissed

“The caterer had an accident and is currently in the hospital, there is a need for a new caterer and we’ve called most catering agencies, they are booked for the week,” Dave said

“You know how long I’ve planned for this. I can’t let anything happen just a day before the event.” Spencer said as he hit the table so hard with his hand.

“I will keep trying other agencies, maybe we will get one,” Dave said as he sounded hopeful.

“If you don’t mind I can help,” Sofia said as she walked down the stairs in her nighties.

“There is no need,” Spencer said as he gave her a side look and then stepped out of the house alongside Dave.

“His ego will let him ruin his party,” Sofia said to Mary as she made a cup of tea for herself.

“You never mentioned you could cook in our conversations,” Mary said, staring at Sofia.

“Well I learned how to bake from my mom and cook but I’m good at baking more than cooking,” Sofia said smiling.

“Wow, I would love to see you bake then. Mary said, smiling.

“Then let’s try it now,” Sofia said with a big smile as she went to the kitchen with Mary.

Dave who was still trying to make calls got so tired and went to meet Spencer who was sitting outside and was on his phone as he was also trying to get some solutions.

“Boss, why don’t we listen to her ideas and what she can come up with,” Dave said

“Who are you talking about?” Spencer said

“I’m referring to Miss Sofia sir,” Dave said

“Do you think she can help? I don’t want something to go wrong.” Spencer said, sounding worried.

“I suggest we listen to her idea, taste her meal, and then know if we should go for her,” Dave said in all confidence.

“Call her to come with her plans,” Spencer said. Dave left and went to the house to call Sofia.

Dave went to the house and met Sofia baking while Mary was sitting and entertaining Sofia.

“Miss Sofia, I see you are in the kitchen today,” Dave said with a smile on his face.

“Oh yes, I want to show Mary my baking skills,” Sofia said, smiling at Dave.

“That’s nice. Mr Spencer wants to see what plans you have that can help the event and also taste some of your baking skills. Dave said

“Oh really, so now he needs my help. Anyways I will come see him when I’m done Baking my cookies.” Sofia said as she turned to put the cookie batter in the oven.

“Okay, I will inform him and make sure I get a taste of your cookies.” Mr Dave said as he laughed and went out to meet Spencer.

“Why does he need my help all of a sudden after saying THERE IS NO NEED,” Sofia said as she mimicked Spencer. Mary burst into laughter and said, “Don’t let him get you.” They both laughed as they sat in the kitchen waiting for the cookies to be ready.

Immediately they heard the sound from the oven, Sofia jumped up saying “Our cookies are ready” She hurriedly went and brought out the cookies from the oven.

“Oh my God, their scent is so delicious, I’m sure it will taste super sweet just like the scent,” Mary said in excitement.

“You need to come to have a taste so you can confirm yourself,” Sofia said smiling. Mary went towards Sofia and picked up a cookie and then took a bite.

“Oh jeeeezzzzz this is so delicious. Where did you get this recipe from? I’m not bluffing but this is the best cookie I’ve eaten” Mary said with her eyes wide open in excitement and amazement.

“Hahaha, my mom was a great chef so she taught me,” Sofia said laughing.

“She must be good. You need to give my boss some now as you inform him of your idea.” Mary said as she was eating her cookies

“Well, we are going together because we have to join hands to help him,” Sofia said

“I don’t think I will be able to go. Just go meet him alone, but be rest assured I’m going to help and assist you in everything.” Mary said smiling

“Thank you, Mary,” Sofia said as served the cookies in two disposable plates for Dave and Spencer with two glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice.

Sofia went to the garden and met Dave and Spencer who sat and were all on their phones. Dave raised his head and saw Sofia standing and said “Miss Sofia you’re done so fast” as he assisted her with the tray of snacks. She served Spencer and Dave respectively.

“How do you intend to help Miss Sofia?” Spencer said as he was staring at his tablet.

“It’s a short notice for one to start thinking of how to prepare different dishes, so I was thinking why not we go for finger foods for the guests,” Sofia said.

“How many finger foods are you suggesting?” Spencer asked

“Like 30-40 different finger foods,” Sofia said

“How sure am I that you will be able to do this and it will taste nice?” Spencer asked as he sought assurance.

“I brought the idea of helping so you need not worry and besides I just served you some cookies for you to have a taste of what I can do,” Sofia said.

Dave and Spencer picked up a cookie and took a bite, immediately Dave gave a big smile with a thumbs up as he continued to eat the cookies with no words but smiles.

“It tastes good, I must say,” Spencer said with a wide smile.

“Thank you, Mr Spencer,” Sofia said with a smile

“I think we will go with the finger foods,” Spencer said

“Okay boss,” Sofia said as she smiled.

Spencer turned to Dave and asked “So what about the drinks? Did you get someone who will handle the drinks?” Spencer asked Dave.

“The drinks are not a problem, the only problem is the mocktails and cocktails, we don’t have anyone to make it.”

“That’s not a problem, I can handle it besides I already have it in my plan,” Sofia said.

“How will you handle everything alone?” Spencer asked as he stared at Sofia.

“Well I’m not alone, Mary is with me,” Sofia said.

“Okay if you say so I hope everything goes accordingly,” Spencer said

“Don’t worry, I assure you.” Sofia Said.

“Okay, that will be all. You can begin your work. Dave will be providing you with everything you need.”

“I will also need a list of things some of the guests are allergic to so we will be cautious in our ingredients,” Sofia said.

“That’s great, I almost forgot about that. Anyways, Dave will send everything to you.” Spencer said as he felt relieved.

“I will send everything to you immediately, Miss Sofia,” Dave said.

Sofia went back to the house to start preparations for the big task she had ahead of her. She discussed everything with Mary, and Mary invited two of her cousins to help. They went to the market, spent almost half of their day, and got everything they needed.

“So what type of mocktails are we making” Mary asked Sofia

“We will be making mango and raspberry cheesecake mocktail, Choca-Tini, strawberry and mint fizz, cherry velvet limeade, apple ginger mocktail, and refreshing blueberry fizz,” Sofia said as she was separating every ingredient they got from the market.

“Wow, that’s lovely, what about the cocktails?” Mary asked.

“For the cocktails, we will be making a classic martini, margarita, old fashioned, Moscow mule, Paloma, whiskey sour, pina colada, gin and tonic, cosmopolitan, and Negroni.

“I have a feeling the guests will all love your ideas.

“Thank you so much, Mary. It’s both our ideas.” Sofia said as they both wrapped up what they were doing in the kitchen. Mary called her cousins and informed them of the time they were to come so they could all join hands and finish up early. Mary and Sofia bid themselves good night and went to their room.
