Chapter 5

Sky's POV

I looked down at the class schedule in my hands that carried the school's letterhead my locker number and timetable. I was supposed to have gotten the information last week, the school does this to avoid too many students crowding the office but I couldn't get mine because I got into town on Saturday.

Today marks the beginning of the senior year, soon high school will be all over. I'm not sure what I plan to do next but we'll see. It'll be a miracle if I'm able to survive the semester

"What do you have first and second period?" Ty asked

"History and Ap calc"

"Sh***t....your cousin's smart Ty....what happened to you" he laughed

Ty laughed, everyone knew that was a joke but Tyler didn't really care, he always said he wasn't one for rigorous reading he just wanted to shoot hoops.

It seemed everyone had different classes to attend for first period but since I was new Toby said She'll walk me to my history class since her literature class was in the same building.

Toby is Bash's long-term girlfriend, that is one thing I noticed about most of Ty's friends, they're in serious relationships and the ones that aren't are not playboys like I would've thought, they're actually kind of decent.

"Has anyone heard from Ace?" Luke, another one of Ty's friends asked "we were supposed to meet him out front this morning

Murmurs of 'no' and 'i don't think he's in school yet' went around the group. "well if anyone has a class with him you tell him that we have practice after school today and it's mandatory"

"Sky we'll see during lunch break," Tyler said walking away with his phone on his ear, I think trying to call Ace

'Ace must be the guy with the dark eyes'

Bidding Toby farewell I walked into my history class dropped my slip on the table and waited for the teacher to notice me

"You must be the new transfer student" he picked up my slip " Sky Baker"

He stood up and walked me to the front of the class

"Everyone....." The whole class became silent, he continued "a new student will be joining us today, introduce yourself, dear"

"Hi, I'm Sky Baker" and everyone stares at me expecting more. What do they want to hear exactly, how circumstances that were beyond my power brought me here or how no matter how much I speak I can never actually talk about the thing I'm supposed to talk about.....talking is overrated

I stare at the teacher waiting for him to tell me to take my seat

Probably reading what my eyes were saying he says "take a seat then"

I look around, not sure what I was looking for, I see a familiar face, I walk to the back and seat next to him

He stares, everyone stares at me then he opens his mouth to speak

"You have practice after school today" I interrupt

"Huh?" He stares into my eyes his stare startling me for a bit

I blink " Tyler has been trying to reach you, he said to tell you that you have practice after school today" I repeat

The teacher at the board was getting his notes ready

"You have a habit of interrupting me when I'm about to speak," he said staring into my eyes again

I avert my eyes, I've never been able to hold a person's eyes for so long and he seems to do it so effortlessly

"I'm Ace Reed," he says leaning back in his seat, I could feel his stare on my face "nice to officially meet you Sky Baker"

I looked at him and nodded

The class was over in a bit while packing my notes and preparing to move to the next class Ace begins "you don't speak much do you?"

I look up "I don't"

he paused for a bit "You have beautiful eyes" he murmured, I looked towards him again probably in shock, the only person that has ever described my eyes as beautiful was my mum. It has been described as weird, cool, even fake, and not like I'm wearing contacts but some people actually think I had surgery, I'm not even sure there's a type of surgery that changes the eye color, people can be crazy.

"Thank you," I said with a small voice trying to repress a smile and I think he caught it because he smiled too, and if I thought he was beautiful before looking at him now just makes him look otherworldly.

I was about to leave the class with Ace walking closely behind me when the teacher called me back

"Yes sir?" I answered while Ace waited for me by the door

"I noticed that some of the textbooks you used in your old school are one level lower than what we use here which means you might have to play catch up," he says "I'll have to assign you a tutor to help with that" he picked up a paper and began looking through it

He looked to the door at Ace who was on his phone

"Mr. Reed, what would you say to lending miss Baker your notes," he said reaching for a sheet of paper on his desk "most of our tutors are juggling more workload than they can handle but as soon as one spot frees up I'll be more than happy to get you a tutor," he says staring up at Ace from the paper

I didn't want a tutor, that would just be an unnecessary inconvenience

"I'd prefer Ace's notes and if I have any questions I can just ask him sir" the teacher looked at me through his glasses perched on his nose

"Mr. Reed??"

"Yh, that'd be great" Ace replied

Ace and I filed out of the classroom

"Thank you" I gave him an appreciative smile and went in the other direction, not really sure where I was going.
