Chapter Forty-Two: The man he's become

A soft knock on the door dragged Serenity’s attention from the contract on the screen.

“Come in.” She called, not bothering to clean up the mess of papers scattered around her. Vito’s little kidnapping stunt had put her almost two weeks behind schedule at work and she had tons of paperwork to get through before she could get some shut eye. 

“Hey, can we talk?” Enzo’s nervous voice carried through the room and Serenity’s eyes snapped to him. 

“Sure, I can spare a minute.” She nodded curtly, removing the pair of spectacles perched on the bridge of her nose. 

“You wear glasses?” His eyebrows shot up in surprise.
