CHAPTER 13

GLENN

I stared out the window as soon as I heard the sound, and it was right there —there was every likely possibility of danger, and it was such in a way that I was cornered.

It was so difficult to understand why they had come this far, the more I thought about it, the more I couldn't see the reasons .

From the look of it, they were merely two making their way toward where I was cautiously, one wedging a gun and the other a criss cross bow.

"Hunter's." I almost screamed out in shock but my hands instinctively came firm on my mouth.

The mere sight of them sent shivers in my veins, at that moment I didn't care if they were just mere hunters in search of a game, it was easy to guess what men like them could do to a lonely woman in the middle of the woods.

As soon as I saw them, I leaned against the adjacent wall, my heart beating heavily.

A lot of thought crept through my mind at the moment and I couldn't help any bit of it as it raced through it leaving traces of fear behind that was evident in the rate at which my heart thudded heavily.

Who are those?

That question didn't fail to leave my mind, the more I thought of it the more it was difficult for me to decipher the entire situation.

There was this fear that they could as well be the owners of the cabin.

"Fuck." I muttered amidst deep breaths covering my face with my hands, careful not to be so agitated so I won't make any risky sounds.

I popped my head up off my palm as I ran my hands down my hair and twisted it around blinking my eyes open.

At the back of my mind I thought I heard something, almost like they were coming in the direction of the cabin but I was too scared to check in that direction again.

All of a sudden, the room looked dark and silent, I peered out the window into the

open as I noticed them stalking and not moving looking in the direction of the house.

“Shit.” I rubbed my hands up and down my face, trying to wake myself up from what could be another nightmare.

Turning my head, I glanced at the door letting out a frustrated sigh.

There was no way I could necessarily get out of the cabin now without making a whole mess of the situation, it was that glaring.

Confused, I inhaled a deep breath and then exhaled. All the little while all I did was hold back, it was like I was holding back my energy for anything that could happen at the next moment.

Yet all this feeling didn't come without the fact that fear was nestling into me and

getting me uncomfortable with each of the minutes that passes.

In one part of my mind, it doesn’t make any sense to me that they would come this far by mere coincidence, I must have left so much trail behind.

As if to confirm my fear's I looked out again, this time one of the men was on one knee scooping a bit of earth and sniffing.

"Accursed hunter's." I cussed in my mind.

He pointed to the direction of the cabin and I could feel my heart trembling within me.

I needed no one to tell me what they were doing next as I could hear their heart beats as they got nearer.

My chest shakes for a moment, and I stare down at the door again, with different thoughts hitting my mind while I stand still as a deer caught in the headlights.

What am I waiting for?

The restraints of fear in my heart feel like broken shackles, filled with dying expectations, and what was considered

unacceptable were things that held me back, I broke through the fear that was heavy in my heart.

They were all an illusion after all as I thought to myself, They only exist when I let them and I won't.

My body burns, every muscle in my nerves tight as it races down me and I steal my jaw as well trying to hold out the last bit of courage left in me for one more second.

Just one more second.

I squeeze my eyes shut, tears caught in my throat I was trying to numb back in and keep to my soul—

The last thing I would want was anyone coming in my direction but at the moment even that was inevitable.

Standing there still unable to move, I could hear the sound of the dog they were yelping and then…finally… he went quiet.

For a minute, I thought they had had gone in another direction as I let out a shaky breath and pull myself away looking out one more time.

This time I would have been caught but I was swift.

Fuck.

Anxiety fills my throat, and the pangs of nausea hit the back of my stomach, almost purging it way out of my stomach as I swallowed it back in.

I heaved as I forced deep breaths in and out, pushing it back down.

I slide my hands to the ground not wanting to be seen and crawled toward the door, I was careful bolting and when that didn't look so comfortable I looked around for something heavy

My eyes caught the table that still had contents from the hare I had for lunch.

Wondering how I could get around without making noise, I averted my eyes, hardening myself, and crawled again toward the table.

As I pushed the table to the door relying on my wolf strength, Pressure built in my lungs, and my eyes blurred. I heaved, needing air as I took two quick breaths.

With the doorway completely sealed off, I

I shot my head up again after crawling to the window.

By now they were so close that I could perceive their scent, seeing one hanging over the edge of the window still oblivious that I was there, I breathed hard, looking exhausted.

He looked pried into the room through the window, narrowing his eyes.

He couldn't see me as I am right there on the ground sitting with my back opposite the same wall.

"I don't think anyone is in." The man says.

One part of my mind wanted to look up to see the man that had spoken but I shut that part up, I didn’t fucking care anymore but still I dived back down,as I was only earing the distinct sound of there heart beat.

"Old Kyle thinks otherwise." The other man obviously talked about the dog.

Seconds later, the man descended from the porch and I could hear him pushing through and walking toward the door.

I could tell they were getting closer and closer and point, I didn't know if the heavy sounds were coming from my own chest or the other way round.

And then my heart stopped, seeing a flash of the handle turning it started beating faster and faster.

I was hoping to myself that the men would just leave after trying to Open the door to no avail but they didn't.

The fucking dog didn't make thing's easy as well barking and scratching against the door as they thud heavily.

"Told you someone was in." The other man says again.

"Well, I think we should head away. I don't want to get into any trouble."

The man like he might might probably listen to his friend and I was almost sighing in relief when the knock came again.

"It is obvious someone is in."

"Yeah , stupid —That would be the owners of the house."

"Look around Joe, this place had been abandoned for years."

There was Silence again and it looked like he might as well listen to what his friend was saying.

Just when I thought that the silence might be from them agreeing to walk away, I heard a loud thud from the door that looked like it might be battered down.

The heavy thuds came again, each second time heavier than the first.

At that moment I knew my fate was sealed, looking around there was no single place to hide .

With one last force, the sun beaten weak door came crashing down.

The wooden table floated mid-air with the force as my heart beat moved at snail pace.

With my face buried in-between my palms to stop myself from looking into the horror in the men's eyes, my body trembled.

I could feel the cold air in the room and could hear the sounds of the men's footsteps.

The vicious dog sniffs perhaps my fear and whimpers.

"Well… What do we have here?" One of the men walked closer to where I was.

"Told you someone was in." He addressed the other man.

I could sense the tension that was building up around the room as my heart beat cane rapidly in heavy waves.

Slowly, I looked up—Coming face to face with the man that had been speaking.

"It is going to be a long night." He whispered with a smirk.
