"Kendrick." Faith breathed, her voice a fragile melody. "Please, help me…I can't take this pain." She almost begged as uncontrollable tears rolled down her eyes which she closed again.

Kendrick understood that either she was under medication or she was in a daze because of high fever or pain. Because she was losing consciousness and regaining it.

Tears welled up in Kendrick's eyes without his control or permission, his heart breaking anew at the sight of the woman he still held dear, battered and broken. He approached her with aching tenderness, his hand reaching out to gently clasp hers. In that touch, he offered solace, a silent promise to be her unwavering support.
