Blinded
Venus is in her garden, tending to the large blue roses which have bloomed that season. She is focused on her work, preferring her plants to the people in the castle. Her heart is troubled because her husband had slept with another woman last night. The pain she felt was unbearable and Venus thought she was going to die. Her chest was erupting in agony and no one came to her for help.
Why should they? There is no cure to the pain a mate feels when they go through betrayal. Only sadness and grief engulf them.
She touches the mark on her neck. Her husband was drunk the night he was forced to mark her. Unlike other people, their union is not something he desires. The Undead is unlike anything Roseanne has ever seen. Its skin is decaying, the skull nearly visible. The eye sockets are empty but the Undead can somehow see her or rather, sense her. The creature is intelligent and smart. For something like that to take down many vampire guards is unthinkable. Even if the vampires have lost the Great War, they are still a formidable force and extremely skilled in fighting. Undead are not that intelligent to use a bow and arrow. They live in a mindless, zombie-like state where they only know how to harm humans but are easily hunted down by other predators. Even a skilled human hunter can take them out.
