Chapter 05 The past

On the top of a mountain which was surrounded with thick forest, stood an old palace which was built with rare gemstones, the palace glimmered under the silver glow from the moon light.

A man was seen standing by the window with a faraway look. His jet hair was a mess and there was dark circles under his eyes because of lack of sleep.

How was he supposed to sleep peacefully when his world crumbled into dust?.

How could the Lycan prince smile when the happiness that he had been craving for years slipped from his tight grip in a twinkle of an eye?

He closed his eyes in frustration and his fingers found its way to his jet hair and held on to it so tightly as if his life depended on it.

The wooden mahogany door of his room clicked open and the king walked inside the room. The king stared at his son and shook his head.

"Still thinking about her?"He asked with an annoyed voice. Ace clenched his hand into a tight fist when he heard his father's voice. Ace's eyes shuttered and a heavy sigh escaped hus lips.

It was silent inside the brightly lit room for a brief moment. Ace turned around with a bitter smile on my lips.

"Are you happy now?" He asked through gritted teeth.Ace felt so sick when his father's lips curved into that sickening mocking smile.

"So happy.''He nodded his head and shrugged without a care.

The king's action made Ace want to punch him across the face. Did he know how much Ace's heart hurt because his mate wasn't a round?

It was even worse when he remembered that she had ran away without telling him where she has ran to. Ace was not sure if they could ever see each other again.

His heart twisted his masculine chest when he gave it a thought. It felt like someone was squeezing his heart into a tiny ball and it was becoming hard for him to breath.

Ace closed his eyes in frustration and took deep breaths to calm himself down because that was not the right time to show his wild reaction.

"I am proud of you son."The king continued to nod as he twisted his lips.

The Lycan king reacted as if that was the best news that he had heard in years. Ace wondered what was good about it when all he was feeling was pain.

"Werewolves are weak creatures. We, Lycan, are smart and intelligent compared to them."He said mockingly with a sickening broad smile on his lips.

"What are they called again? Can someone please remind me the name of those weak creatures?"He joked and laughed out aloud as if that was the funniest joke of the year.

Ace didn't find any humour in his words. It was blunt and it had a bitter taste in his ear. Instead of laughing along with his farther, Ace's heart twisted inside his chest painfully.

"Can you just stop it!"Ace shouted at the top of his voice and hit the wooden table with his fists, making everything which was on the table to fall on the tiled floor and the table to break into two halves.

The king was startled, he looked at me with widened eyes. Ace knew his father was surprised since he knews him very well. Ace didn't get in fights or show his emotions on the face that easily.

That was how the king was taught his son while growing up. How to become a tough king when his time comes.

Ace was not supposed to show any emotions on his face because the enemies would use it against him. However, it was too hard when it had to do with the matter of the heart.

Ace couldn't persevere hearing his father's hateful words about his mate.

"What is wrong with you son!Are you alright in your head!" He asked furiously.

"You're supposed to kill any Werewolf that you come across because they're the reason why you don't have a mother."The king said through gritted teeth.

He was telling the truth. Ace was supposed to hate all the werewolves because they killed his mother in the war between Lycans and the Werewolves when he was eleven years old.

Ace watched his mother take her last breath in this palace, it was in the midnight. Her death was still in his mind like it happened yesterday or few hours ago.

"Hatred won't yield anything good, father."Ace ran his hand through his messed up hair for the tenth time.

"What will you gain if another war breaks out?"Ace wiggled his eyebrows and the corner of my lips curved into a bitter smile.

"Don't pretend that you don't know what I will gain, son."The king's lips curved into a wicked smile,Ace could tell he was up to no good.

Ace knew his father more than anyone else. He was thirsty for blood since his mate died many years ago. He liked inflicting pain on people so that he could be satisfied.

"I will take over the Red-blood pack and make them my slaves."He said with a sickeningly sweet smile on his lips.

"What are you thinking!father? Many people are going to lose their lives in war."Ace said angrily. He didn't support his father's decision even a little bit. The plan would destroy everything that they had worked hard to build after the first war between Lycans and Wolves.

"I don't give a damn!"He said and shrugged nonchalantly.Ace knew his father didn't have a care in this world because he lost his mate so many years ago.

He's thirsty for blood because he knows he has nothing to lose. That's what happened when a Lycan lost their mate.

But what about him?He still had someone to protect. The same person he was supposed to hate but he couldn't bring himself to hate her even a little bit.

"Since when did you become so concerned about the pack and its weak people?"The king asked with an amused smile on his lips.

A frustrated sigh escaped Ace's lips when he heard his father's words.Ace knew what his father was trying to do, he was just trying to tease him.

"It's better if you leave, father."Ace nodded towards the door and turned to the window.

He was not in the position to talk to the king because he knew they would end up arguing over the same thing over and over again.

Ace's eyes shuttered for a brief moment and that gentle face appeared.

"Alessandra."He groaned.Ace could see her sweet smile and those brown hazel eyes which held the warmth that was lacking in his life.

The warmth that he needed so bad but it was beyond his reach.

"I'm so sorry, mate."Ace mumbled under his breath and a small sigh escaped my lips.

Ace felt frustrated because he failed to protect Alessandra from his father and everyone as he had promised. It was took Ace by surprise when his father said that Ales was a werewolf.

He wasn't expecting it to turn out that way because it's rare for Lycans and werewolf to be mates. It has never happened in history.

That's why Ace didn't bother to ask her anything about her background and where she lived. Ace was so ignorant because he was sure that Alessandra just a Lycan like him.

However, it turned out to be the opposite. She was a werewolf, people that were involved with his mother's death. It reminded him of the bitterness and the struggles he went through while growing up without a mother.

Despite everything, that didn't mean that Ace loved his mate any less. She was still in his mind no matter how hard he tried to forget her.

Ace had a dream of meeting his mate someday. So everything made sense now.

He spent ten years looking for his mate in different Lycan kingdoms till he gave up, he thought that maybe she died so many years ago only to find out that his mate was a werewolf, their mortal enemies.

"Ugh..."Ace's Lycan Liam groaned when he gave it a thought.

"I have a feeling she's not fine. Our mate is so sad and she can't stop crying."Liam said. Ace knew he could feel it because of the marking bond.

Liam was wounded by whatever happened. It had been ten fucking years. And now that happened after finding his destined mate and holding her in his arms.

"I'm worried like crazy too. I don't know how she's doing right now. I'm sorry that I failed you, Liam."A single tear dropped from Ace's eyes.

He walked out of his room and out of the palace. All the palace guards lowered their heads when they saw Ace's dark face.

They knew when to speak to him and when to shut their damn mouth and keep their opinions to themselves.

"Where do you think you're going in the middle of the night?"Ace stopped in his tracks and inhaled sharply.

There was this one person who always dared to talk to Ace no matter how angry Ace seemed to be.

He knew Ace more than anyone else did because they grew up together.

Ace didn't bother to look back at him or say anything. He continued with his journey to the dark forest because it was the only place where he could let out all his anger and frustration.
