At The Ice Cream Truck

"You really thought I couldn't hear you?" Wilder sighed. "Don't waste my time, Miss Harrington."

There was a tinge of impatience in his voice. Mallory anxiously took the card from him, her heart beating louder than the clacking sounds of his shoes and that of the guards combined.

Her tongue was tied, and coupled with how fast he walked, she didn't get the chance to thank him.

She stood aghast for some seconds, watching him vanish. Her gaze fell to the card which seemed too heavy in her hands. How could he trust her with his card? How did he even overhear her when she'd been whispering?

Suddenly, she scoffed when she remembered. Wilder had always been able to overhear her even when she was whispering.

She had always pulled his ears for it. She didn't know how it happened, but he'd said her voice had always been too clear to him, even when it wasn't to others. He'd known her that much...
