Chapter eighteen

The voice was unmistakable. "Hello Sa... Sam!" She stuttered. He wasn't standing there in front of her but it felt like he was. The air was heavy with tension and uneasiness. She wished she had known he was the one calling. But she knew she wouldn't have picked up the phone if she had known. "How're you Savannah?" He asked, "or should I say, Mrs Savannah Verrati?" Her stomach clenched. She was dumbfounded. Her mouth felt as dry as a desert. She struggled hard to find her voice. "What... What do you want Sam?" It came out her mouth before she could stop it. She wasn't thinking straight anymore. She wasn't ready yet for this kind of encounter. "Oh really? What do I want? He asked, chuckling. "Hmm... I want good food, I want more life, more money, more clients, more houses, more cars. Should I go on? But more especially, I want to know why you did this to me." The pain in his voice was audible even to the deaf.
