WHO IS IT ?

Evelyn sat on the plush couch in the dimly lit living room , the soft glow of a nearby lamp casting gentle shadows across her face. Her father’s voice crackled through the phone , filled with concern.

“ where are you Evelyn ? Are you okay ? “

She took a deep breath , glancing nervously at Mateo , who was seated on the couch directly opposite of her. His dark eyes bore into hers , as silent warning echoing their earlier conversation ; don’t say a word to your father.

“ yes , dad , I’m fine “

She said , forcing a reassuring tone into her voice.

“ please don’t worry about me “

Mateo’s stern expression softened just slightly. His gaze still was intense. He nodded almost imperceptibly , indicating his approval.

Evelyn’s father sighed , his worry palpable even through the phone.

“ you look weak. Evelyn, tell me where are you. We have been going crazy. Dominic is finding you like crazy “
