The Jail

The topmost floor of the skyscraper is empty and dark except for one room. A scenic view of the city lies ahead, the lights from the buildings nearby twinkling against the black sky. Ryder’s gaze is unfocused, his thoughts unraveling in front of him. He sits back on his chair, thinking hard of his words to Elle.

Yes, he loves Scarlett. It’s not an infatuation nor is it something which sprung out of nowhere. For the past three years, he kept a careful eye on her and she didn’t even know it. He sent his underlings to that jail to train her and Kat even hacked into the system so that they could keep an eye on Scarlett. Ryder looked through every footage, saw her every move with interest. He assumed she’d not survive.

But she beat the odds and defied his expectations.

His lips break into a smile as he recalls the first time she intrigued him.
