Waiting at the gate

Mallory´s POV.

It didn’t feel right. They should have been overwhelmed with happiness to see their Alpha and Luna´s daughter appear by the gates. Instead, it looked like they had just seen a ghost and stumbled backward, shouting for us to stay put and wait right there! Outside of the massive silver gates.

But if I were, to be honest with myself, it felt wrong the moment we decided to take her home. But what could I say? I saved her, and she saved me. That didn’t give me any reason to keep her, no matter what I felt about her parents.

Ethan and Bear shifted their weight from one foot to another while throwing each other glances, but they never uttered a word. They didn’t have to; we all felt it; the tension. The guards had stepped several steps back, and now they were just standing there, glaring at us through the bars. Looking down, Ophelia still held my hand with a firm grip and stared straight ahead. Her soft curls bounced in the breeze, but her face was cold as stone.
