“Alright Hot Stuff, you ready for this?” Scott asked.
Rayan sighed nervously. “About as ready as I’ll ever be…”
They were in the driveway of Scott’s parent’s house, which had very helpfully been left clear just for them. Parked cars lined both sides of the street around them. Both Scott and Rayan were in matching and decidedly hideous holiday sweaters, with Rayan’s being several sizes too big to make it easier to get on and off. It was a bitterly cold, clear, and bright Christmas Eve day, and the guest of honor had just rolled up to the annual Kranston Christmas Party and been unloaded.
“Cuddle Bug, what if the rest of your family doesn’t like me?” Rayan got more nervous as he was pushed closer to the door.

Michael couldn’t help fidgeting with the zipper on the coat Edwardo had gotten him for Christmas. The bodyguard Mr. Sanchez had promised to assign him sat next to him in the waiting area of the airport terminal, and the Sanchez family jet was taking absolutely forever to arrive…New Year’s had been a somewhat private thing at Scott’s parent’s place, which had given him the perfect opportunity to fish for advice with the issue at hand. He’d even been able to ring in the new year with Edwardo through a video call. It was certainly better than last New Year when he was stuck with Rayan at work with a skeleton crew because everyone else had called out, and a nice little break from the drama. Getting to sign Rayan’s casts was a nice touch too, since it completely slipped his mind until he saw all the cute little scribbles on them.Speaking of Rayan’s casts, they were supposed to be coming off today

“Oh GROSS!” Rayan exclaimed in disgust. “Why does it smell so bad?!’“Well, I told you there would probably be a little smell,” Scott said levelheadedly, “It’s not that bad.”Scott was doing his best to look unbothered for Rayan’s benefit, but was stealthily breathing through his mouth. The whirring sound of the mini saw echoed through the exam room. The long awaited day for Rayan’s casts to come off had finally come. The physician in charge had taken Rayan’s larger leg cast off first, and the stench coming off the limb was nearly unbearable.The whirring stopped, and with the hard protective layer of the other leg cast removed, the physician set to cutting away the gauze underneath. The physical therapy session ended just in time for a late lunch. Rayan had been given a little goodie bag with some stress balls and elastic resistance bands, along with a rather nice water bottle and a thick pair of slipper socks with the rubber grips on the bottom. Considering how cold it was outside, it was the socks Rayan was most thankful for. In their rush to make the morning appointment, Scott and Rayan both forgot he would need a pair of shoes.The chilly weather wasn’t about to put a damper on Rayan’s mood! He had a stress ball in each hand as he was loaded into the car, and even started pressing his feet against the floor like he’d been shown how to do after he was buckled in. “Let me think about it?”Michael’s words replayed themselves over and over and over again in Edwardo’s head. It hadn’t been an outright “no,” but Edwardo knew the second his question left his mouth that morning that their relationship was nowhere near repaired enough to ask such a thing.Let me think about it…It had barely been a week since Edwardo came back from his family holiday in Mexico, but that night had been the only one they had together. Edwardo waited patiently for Michael to finish his meeting with the city’s creative planning department. With his entire afternoon open, he wasn’t about to miss out on a prime date opportunity. Besides, he remembered Michael saying something about his friend’s court case starting soon, and how he was supposed to testify as a witness. Once that got started they’d miss out on their afternoon activities for sure. Edwardo had offered to go to the courthouse with him as moral support, but Michael insisted he could handle it. Edwardo wasn’t too sure about that though. Sure, on the outside Michael seemed as cheerful and spunky as ever, but Edwardo had a sneaking suspicion at least some of it was getting to him.
