“Alis,” Mischa was the one to say my name and stand up from her seat to pull me into a hug, all smiles. My body was stiff and i kept my eyes on Derek’s, whose expression had slowly morphed into confusion.

As my best friend saw the look on my face, she asked in a low and soft voice, “what’s wrong, Alis?”

She sounded so worried for me and I glanced briefly at her and tugged my hand from her loose grasp.

“Derek, I’d like to speak with you in private,” i emphasized the words ‘I’m private’ and his brows furrowed.

“Alisha, come on,” Mischa sighed. “This isn’t like you. Did anything happen? I thought you were with the twins?” She asked those questions one after the other and I could tell she was trying to distract me.

They must have caught on to the fact that I wasn’t in a good mood and tried to make me feel better, as well as defuse the situation.
