FIFTY TWO

Daniel Winters was busy for most of that morning, rushing from one meeting to another and because of that, Jane was very much left to her own devices. She had completed her tasks for that morning, from filing the papers to helping with the photocopying to running errands and buying coffee for the interior design team and finally to feeding little Timmy.

And now, she was quite free. But her mind was not. On the contrary, her brain was working on overdrive. How on earth was she going to fork out one million in two days? If she failed, Daniel would stand to lose everything he worked so hard for, and she could not bear to see it happen. Jane knew how hard he worked to keep his mother’s inheritance intact. For him to lose it would be akin to losing his life itself.

One million….one million….one million.

She couldn’t just waltz to a bank and demand a loan. What could she offer as collateral? Timmy’s pacifier? They’d throw
