Chapter Twenty-Nine

I almost gasped when mine and Damien’s lips touched that night, but I held it in the way I held my breath when I felt his hand snaking around my waist and holding me steady.

His lips were warm and soft, and I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to kiss them every day.

When we pulled away, I finally took a deep breath as I finally caught myself, and the first thing that came out of my mouth was, “I’m so sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?” He questioned, and I made the words dance in my head for a moment as I asked myself the same thing – what was there to apologize for? It had been completely mutual, after all.

“I think we should go to sleep,” I whispered, closing my eyes and closing the window of ever discussing what had just happened. I didn’t want to talk about it just yet as I wanted it to linger until the next morning when I was clear-headed enough to say something that made sense.
