Chapter 9

Warm blood gushed out of her neck like a fountain.

Arthur Mu, in a panic, cradled her body in one hand, and with the other hand tried to cover her self-inflicted wound. He had no idea what he was doing, and as much as he tried, blood still flowed out along his fingers.

\"Elizabeth, where did you hear that? Tell me!\"

As she looked into his eyes, she finally saw in them something other than hatred or disgust. Elizabeth’s consciousness was fading fast. Maybe only death can stop the pain in her heart. Slowly, her eyelids fluttered and closed.

\"Elizabeth, who allowed you to close your eyes? Open them! I order you to open your eyes!\"

\"Where is everyone? Somebody help me with this!\" Arthur Mu\'s panicked voice startled the old woman passing by. She was the same one who had watched Elizabeth cook and carry water at noon.

The old woman rushed to his aid. Upon seeing the dead maidservant Camille Ah, she was even more alarmed. \"Duke, I\'m going to ask the boy to bring the straw mat.\"

Arthur Mu\'s face was gloomy. “Who said she was dead? Go and get the doctor! If she does die, I want your family to be buried with her.”

The old woman was so scared that she ran out begging for mercy.

Lying on the bed, Elizabeth opened her eyes. Moving her weak lips, her voice glided out of her mouth softly. \"The world says that the Duke is cold and cruel, but no one knows how kind you really are.\"

She also said. \"Yunjing, from the moment I married you, I had imagined the worst. Despite that, my heart is still in pain. In fact, I should blame you, also I should hate you, but I can\'t hate you, also I can\'t blame you, because I owe you, I feel sorry for you...\"

Blood, red as camellia, constantly dripped from her neck, soaking her dress.

\"Elizabeth, what do you mean by these words? And where did you hear that poem?\" He was obviously asking questions, his hand pressed onto her neck even harder.

\"Duke, you will strangle her like this!\" The doctor said in a brisk voice as he entered the room.

Arthur Mu let go. Not knowing what else to say, he ordered the doctor, \"Cure her!\" Why didn\'t he want this woman to die? Since when did he care about her?

  \"Duke.\"

A maid arrived and said in a soft voice, \"The Duchess is going to be okay. The doctor said that the Duchess was not poisoned, but...\"

All he heard was that his wife was safe. He tuned out the rest. His eyes again involuntarily fell on Elizabeth. It was he who had wronged her after all.
