Charlotte’s POV

“Stop laughing!”

I close my mouth and smile at her again. "Luzia, I'll see you around. Don't worry, I'm not interested in your kid. No way would my dad ever murder him."

I left her speechless and sneaked out to the backyard, where I saw no security guards. I was still looking for the treehouse. Luca then jumped out from behind me and scared me. I jumped to my feet and grabbed his collar, telling him, "Don't do that again!"

As his face came close to mine, he took a deep breath, and I bit my bottom lip as I struggled to release his collar. "So where's the treehouse?" I asked as I turned away from him.

"Come, over here." He grabbed my hand and ran with me to the garden. I felt like I was a teenager again, and Luca was the king of mysterious but funny. "So this is it?" I asked with a sour face. When I looked up, I saw that the treehouse was made of beautiful native wood. Suddenly, he extended his hand and helped me climb above the treehouse.

"Thanks, but I can do it,"
