Rayne's Pov
"We're from Oceanpearl Pack," I said. For some odd reason, I don't feel intimidated by his presence one bit. "Here's our invitation card."The guard outside stared at the invitation card for a second before signaling for another guard to let us in."Who does he think he is?!" Reynold fumed, as soon as we were out of earshot. "Once I become allies with the Lycan I'm going to demand for his head!" He gloated.A snort escaped my lips, as I tried so hard not to laugh out loud. Seeing Reynold being brought down from his high horse by some guard felt so good."Are you laughing at me?" Reynold asked with creased brows."No, of course not," I faked a cough. "I have an itchy throat," I lied.Reynold mumbled some words that I couldn't quite catch and I couldn't care less.We arrived in front of the Packhouse and were escorted to the hall where the party was being held."Wait here, let me go in first," Reynold mindlinked me. "You're not to be seen around me unless necessary. I can't afford to be seen standing beside an ugly person like you."I nodded in response and did as instructed. I stood outside the party hall, and Reynold went in first. After about three minutes, I went in also. There was a brief hushed silence as soon as I walked in, then it was accompanied by whispers among the party invitee's."Who is she?" A lady standing beside Reynold asked, her voice filled with so much maliciousness.Reynold shrugged in response like he didn't know me. I wonder how his brain even works. He's acting like I'm a total nobody instead of his wife and Luna."Does she have a death wish?" Another added. "She's not dressed appropriately.""She sure has a death wish. I heard the new Lycan king, hates the color red," another said."This was a huge mistake," I linked my wolf, Lisa, who had been silent since we passed through the gate of the Packhouse."There's so much maliciousness in the air," Lisa linked back. "Why don't we get some fresh air outside," Lisa suggested. "The party is yet to start anyway."I don't know about getting fresh air, but I can't afford to be in the same room as everyone here. I chose not to ponder about triggering the Lycan King, so it would be best to stay out of sight, if possible till the entire party is over.I didn't know where to go from here, and leaving the Packhouse and wandering around the Lycan's territory didn't seem like a good idea, so I just decided to walk within the Packhouse. There was really nothing much to see and admire, I was basically surrounded by walls, and luckily for me, I didn't come across any guards.Still wandering around the Packhouse, I came across a beautiful garden. My first reaction was to turn around and leave as going in there smelt like trouble, but there was something about the garden that drew me in like a moth to a flame, maybe it was because the garden sort of reminded me of my garden back at Oceanpearl Pack.Unable to resist the urge, I stepped into the garden. The scent of blooming flowers mixed into the air wafted into my nose, filling me with an intense sense of peace I hadn't felt in a very long time.I walked deeper into the garden which didn't seem to have an end, and the more I was in the more peaceful I felt internally.A stray tear ran down my cheeks, at the thought of me forgetting what it feels like to be at peace. Ever since I got married to Reynold, my life has been anything but peaceful."What are you doing here?!" A voice thundered from behind, making an unexpected shiver run down my spine."I-I was just... I needed some fresh air," I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't mean to intrude… I'll leave right away.""Do you have a death wish?" The voice echoed from every corner of the garden."N– no, I," my words came out in a rush, as I turned to the direction of the voice.I gulped, as my eyes landed on a huge man, his expression hardened with every passing second."I– I lost my way," I managed to say. I felt like a mouse caught in the gaze of a hungry predator, helpless and vulnerable."You–""Let her be," a voice so melodious came from behind me. The tone was commanding yet soothing.Curiosity took the best of me, and I turned around to see whose voice it was. My eye landed on a man, unlike anyone I had seen before. His presence seemed to radiate authority that surrounded him like a cloak. But it was his eyes that drew me in, there was a certain wisdom and kindness in the depths of his gray eyes that seemed to be at odds with his intimidating appearance. The intensity in his gaze as he stared at me made me feel naked and vulnerable. It felt like my flaws and Insecurities were bare for him to see."I'm sorry your majesty," the first man apologized. "I'll handle the intruder.""Go," he said, his voice firm yet strangely gentle, and his eyes not leaving me for a second. "I'll handle it from here."I stood there in stunned silence, my heart still racing in my chest as I watched the gray-eyed man approach me.As the gray-eyed man grew closer, I couldn't help but notice his finer appearance. He has tousled dark brown hair, framing a strong jawline and chiseled features. His lips were set in a firm line, with a hint of a certain softness. His shoulders were broad and powerful, and those eyes, I couldn't tear my gaze from them no matter how hard I tried. It felt like the peace I felt when I stepped into the garden was all in his eyes."Sorry about my Beta's behavior," he said, his voice sounding like music to my ears. "Are you alright?" I shook my head, forcing myself to focus."Y-yes, I-I'm fine," I stuttered, taking a step back. "Thank you."He smiled a smile that reached his eyes and lit up his entire face."Good to know," he said, his smile growing wider. He closed in on me, so much that I could feel his warm breath on my skin. I buried my eyes to the ground, too scared of getting lost in his gaze again. Gently, he grabbed my chin, and turned me to face him, as he caressed my cheeks. Waves of sparks shot through my body, at his touch"Mate!" Lisa squealed in my head, loud and clear. It took all my willpower to not act on the sudden surge of emotions flooding through me.His gray eyes turned into a bright shade of red. "Mine!" He whispered in a low growl. The sound of his voice and the intensity in his gaze as he called me 'mine' sent a shiver down my spine. Not a shiver of fear, but one of a deep longing, a longing for a connection I hadn't realized I was missing. As if my hands had a mind of his own, I felt this great urge to caress his face. Slowly, my hand began making its way to his face–"Bitch! Where are you?!" Reynold's voice echoed in my head, snapping me back to reality.I quickly pulled away, taking a step back as I was suddenly filled with guilt. This was wrong, totally wrong. I'm married to Reynold, he's my fated mate, we've been destined for each other right from the beginning."I– I need to go," I managed to say, and without waiting for a response, I turned around and fled out of the garden, my heart pounding in my chest at every step."Lisa, what was that all about?" I linked Lisa for clarification because I couldn't understand how Lisa could call him mate when Reynold was our fated mate."I have no idea, Rayne," Lisa linked back. It was obvious she was finding it hard to believe. "Maybe–""Rayne!" Reynold's voice thundered in my head again, causing a split headache.I took a deep breath to calm my racing heart, before walking into the party hall."Where the hell did you go?!" Reynold mindlinked me, there was a smile on his face as he nodded in greeting to one of the guests but the anger in his voice as he mindlinked couldn't be masked."I went out for some fresh air," I mindlinked back.Reynold sighed. "I don't want to look for you again," he warned through the link. "The Lycan King is about to come in.""His Majesty, the Lycan King, Kaiden Alvaro has arrived!" A guard announced, and everyone stood up, their attention at the door. I stood just like everyone else, eyes fixed on the door, then my handkerchief suddenly slipped out of my hand.I bent down to pick it up."Rayne, get up!" Reynold hissed, as he nudged me to stand up straight. "The Lycan King is here."I quickly stood up, and my eyes immediately roamed towards the door, and they met those familiar gray eyes again. My heart skipped a beat, as reality came crashing down on me, the gray-eyed man was none other than Kaiden Alvaro, the Lycan King himself!Kaiden's POVI stood in the garden, the scent of Jasmine and Cherries lingering in the air long after the red-dress lady had left. I felt strangely empty as I watched her leave– run off, it felt as if she ran off with a part of me. All I wanted to do as she ran off was go after her, grab her by the waist, and hold her close for all eternity. Her scent lingered in my mind, stirring up emotions I never knew I had within me."Your majesty," the voice of my Beta, Bradford, snapped me out of my reverie. I wrinkled my nose, trying to hold on to the lady's scent, as Bradford's collided with her's."What is it, Bradford?' I asked irritatedly."I'm sorry your majesty," he apologized. "But it's time for you to attend to the werewolves Alpha's.""Do you know who that lady is?" I asked, surprising myself at my question."What lady?" He asked, a hint of surprise in his voice, even though he kept a straight face.“The one in the red dress, who you nearly scared to death," I pointed out, laying em
Rayne's POV"No, no, no, no, how can this be?" I muttered under my breath as I walked out of the party hall through the back door. I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that the man I met in the garden a while back was no other than the Lycan King. When our eyes locked when he entered the hall, I felt a surge of emotions flood through me – longing, confusion, fear, they all intertwine. Kaiden Alvaro was the epitome of everything I wasn't supposed to want or need in my life. But now, thanks to my ill fate, I'm feeling a bond with him. I knew I had to leave immediately, to sort through the chaos in my mind before it led to something catastrophic. I quickly mind-linked Reynolds that I needed to use the bathroom, and as always he was furious, threatening to bring fire and brimstone if I dared move an inch, but at this point, I couldn't care less, I just couldn't afford to let my emotions and wolf spiral out of control. As I made my way out of the hall, Reynolds kept on with his
Kaiden's POVI was seated in the hall listening to an Alpha of some pack. I couldn't quite catch the name simply because my thoughts were somewhere else. Occasionally, I glanced at the door waiting for either the red dress lady or Bradford, my Beta to walk through, but they both seemed to be taking their sweet little time, and neither I nor my wolf, Axel, was finding this amusing. The door finally opened, and I unintentionally released a breath I didn't realize I was holding. My eyes immediately were fixed on Bradford, ignoring the Alpha seated before me with one of his council members. "How did it go? Did you find her?" I mindlinked Bradford."I'll tell you all about it after the meeting?" He responded, keeping a straight face, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking. This was the quality I lived most about him, but right now I hated the hell out of it."Thank you, but Mysticrock can't go into alliance with your Pack," I cut the Alpha who was still speaking off. He stared at me wit
Rayne's POV"Your proposal sounds promising," he said, making my heart drop. "But I'll need a little more convincing. Why don't you stay at Mysticrock for a few days? I would like us to discuss this plan of yours further."I stared at him with wide eyes, fully knowing this couldn't end well. Why can't he just decide here and now if he's going to become allies with us or not? There's nothing else to explain. I can survive just one more night, but a few days? That's going to be hell for me. Lisa is going wild just being so up close to him, now I'll have to spend a few days?"Did I say something wrong?" He asked, snapping me out of my train of thought."I–" "Of course not, Your Majesty," Reynolds chuckled dryly, and for once I was grateful he cut me off when I was about to say something. "We'd be more than delighted to walk you through our plans, won't we babe?" Reynolds nudged me gently.I nodded my head slowly in response."Alright then," he said, a bit of happiness in his voice but h
Rayne's POVMy traitorous stomach growled as soon as I stepped into the dining hall and the smell of freshly cooked food wafted into my nose.Reynolds turned to look at me, his brows creased in irritation.I averted my gaze, and they landed on the Lycan king who was already seated on the dining table. His eyes went to my stomach, which meant he heard my stomach growl. I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks out of embarrassment.Reynolds and I both made our way to the dining table where the Lycan King was seated alongside his Beta. "I'd prefer for my guests to be right beside me today," the Lycan King said, as I made to settle down in the seat farthest from him. My mind went blank as his eyes bore into mine as he spoke."Of course your Majesty," Reynolds said, and slid his arms around my waist. "Isn't our guest so kind?" He asked me, a fake smile plastered on his lips.I gave a tight-lipped smile in return, not trusting my voice to betray how I was truly feeling. As we got to the
Rayne's POVI stood in front of the floor-length mirror, with my nerves tied in my thoughts. Today was my 18th birthday, but that wasn't the most important part of today, tonight I'll officially be marked Luna of Oceanpearl Pack by Alpha Reynold. All my life, I've prepared for this moment, but staring back at myself in the mirror, putting on the Luna's ceremonial Oceanpearl dress, I wasn't so sure anymore.Any girl in my shoes right now would be super excited, some would even kill to be in my position right now. I took in a deep breath trying to get rid of the feeling of dread that gnawed in the pit of my stomach. Different thoughts ran through my mind all at once. What if the prophecy was wrong? What if tonight turns out to be a nightmare instead of a dream?A knock on the door snapped me out of my train of thought."What are you still doing in your room, Rayne?" My mum asked as she opened the door with a frown etched on her face. "Everyone is waiting for you at the Packhouse.""Mom–
Rayne’s POV“Good morning Luna!” an omega greeted me which was followed by a stream of greetings from two other omega's who were working in the Pack House garden.I waved at them and managed a smile as I walked deeper into the garden, taking in the beautiful flowers and their vibrant colors. The garden had about ten different flowers in it ranging from Roses, Iris, sunflowers, Lavender and a whole lot more just to give it that vibrant feel. This was my personal space so I took so much effort in planting the flowers, as this was the only thing Reynold allowed me to have. My face fell at the thought of ReynoldIt had been three years since that dreadful incident on the night of my eighteenth birthday. For the supposed 'Chosen one' everyone had high expectations about my wolf, but they were highly disappointed with what they saw, and–"It's not your fault they can't see, Rayne," my wolf Lisa quipped. I could feel her rolling her eyes at my thoughts. The disappointment boldly written on
Rayne's POVI was jolted awake from my afternoon nap by the sound of Reynold barging into my room. I was beyond frightened as I sat upright on the bed with my pillow safely clutched around my chest. Different thoughts raced through my mind all at once. Reynold has never set foot in my quarters much less my room, and for the first time since we've been married over three years, he is barging into my room, and from the look on his face, I can tell he is pissed off."Go- good afternoon, A-alpha Reynold," I stuttered, bowing my head and avoiding his gaze, as I racked my brain trying to think of what I could have done to piss him off so much that he had to come to my room."What are you doing in bed you wench?!" Reynold growled pure fury in his eyes. "Don't you know we have a party to attend?!"I stared at Reynold in utter confusion. I had no idea what he was talking about."What party?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, as I feared talking too loud would only anger him more."What
