Crush

Gael's (POV)

I can't believe I woke up late today. This is one of the reasons I tried not to think of the past, the fact that I was going to end up waking late after crying my eyes out. But then, I woke up late again.

Standing by the bus station waiting for the bus going to Stanford Hill was another pain in the ass. The driver hardly arrives early.

I peered at the time through my wristwatch, and it was 7:30 am. How was I supposed to get to the office by 8: AM considering the fact that the second bus hadn't arrived?

I had missed the chance of 6:00am. The second bus ought to have arrived. Since 7, but now it's past 7 and counting. I tapped my foot on the floor anxiously, while staring at my wrist from time to time.

“Mr. Roger is going to hang my head on a spike for sure.” I muttered to myself while waiting. I was supposed to hand in some project work but, from the look of things, I wouldn't be able to do so now. Shit! I shouldn't have let myself wallow in my pain.

Just then, I spotted a taxi in the opposite direction of where I was standing. I didn't have to be told twice that it was heading to Stanford Hills.

This was an opportunity I cannot afford to miss for the world. I glanced at both sides, and when I noticed the road was safe to cross, I quickly made to cross. But just as I was in the middle of crossing, I suddenly heard the horn of a car. And just as I was about to turn to my left where the horn echoed from, I was suddenly hit by a car, a Rolls-Royce to be precise.

I saw myself being lifted above the ground. I tried to look at the face of my murderer, but he was in dark shades with lips parted, probably in shock that he almost got me killed. I heard screams, but before I could look around, I saw myself descending at high speed. I hit my head and spine hard on the car's bonnet, and I instantly blacked out.

*********

I opened my eyes faintly only to be met by a pair of gray eyes. That was all I could make of the person because I slowly drifted off into darkness afterward.

**********

The sound of water dripping woke me up from my unconscious state. I gradually opened my eyes, and my nose twitched instantly, causing me to sneeze terribly. I opened my eyes wide only to find myself in a bed, close to an unfamiliar transparent glass window.

I peered down at myself, only to discover that I was actually lying on a bed. Furthermore, I tried to move, but my whole body felt numb. I could feel something on my nose through which I breathed, and a bandage wrapped around my left leg. I took my gaze up, though I couldn't see my head, but I could feel that my head was probably wrapped up as well.

Just then, I had a recollection of what happened before I blacked out. I remembered I was late for work and was going to take the bus, but then, I was unable to take the bus because it never came. And then, I saw a taxi across the road from where I stood.

I tried to cross the road. Just at that very moment, I felt a sharp pain in my head that suddenly made me feel dizzy.

“Arrgh!” I screamed in pain.

Suddenly, I noticed something moving from within the curtains. I quickly took my gaze fully at the curtain, only to find someone walking out of the curtain area.

I almost choked myself to death when I saw who it was.

I blinked spontaneously. I just couldn't believe who I was seeing.

He stared at me with an expression that I could hardly read.

What a fine man he is, the pictures didn't do justice to how handsome he was. I could barely take my gaze off him. Those gray eyes…now that I think about it, I saw them once before I fell into an unconscious state. Could all this be a dream? Could it be that I was dreaming about him again?

I tried to move my hands, I wanted to touch him, just to be certain I wasn't dreaming about him again.

“How are you feeling?” He asked. His voice is so deep and melodious to my ears. Fuck! Now I can finally say I'm daydreaming again. There's no way he's asking me these questions for real. Turstin is a celebrity way out of my league. There's no way he would be right here by my side.

“Gael, stop doing this to yourself. Get a life, will you?”

“Do you feel pain anywhere?” The second question suddenly made me go wide in shock. He was still there peering down at me with the same expression on his face.

What? Did he just ask me about my health? Is he truly for real?

“A…are you actually talking to me?” I asked with wide eyes. My voice sounded coarse. I found a hard time recognizing my voice.

“I'm sorry for what happened to you, and I want to assure you that you're okay now.”

Huh? What was he talking about? Why was he apologizing to me? I strained my head and recalled the scene where I was hit. I didn't see the face of the culprit because he was in dark shades. How on earth did Turstin know about the incident?

“Were you the one who brought me here?” I asked in a low tone. I didn't like how my voice sounded, so I decided to speak rather slowly.

“Yes, matter of fact, I was the one who hit you.”

“What?!” I said, almost in a scream. I went wide in utter shock. He also seemed to be surprised at my outburst.

“Why? You didn't pay attention to the crossing and got hit. I must say you are reckless for a human.”

I couldn't believe my ears. Did he just say that to me?

“Excuse me, what do you mean I wasn't paying attention? You were the one who hit me, remember?”

“I did, and that was because you ran into my car suddenly. You didn't pay attention to the signs of crossing, did you?”

I opened my mouth to argue, but I couldn't find the words to speak. I just stared at him as he took the trophy, when I was clearly the one hospitalized. So much for having a crush on a celebrity.
