Chapter Eleven

Mazelina

Six weeks later,

The rain is bucketing down. I’m freezing cold and wet. With the key in my hand, I look up at my sad-looking apartment. It’s the third place I’ve called home in less than six weeks.

“At this rate, they’ll find me in no time,” I say to Sam, my only companion.

“Just don’t unpack.” I don’t know who’s wallowing more, me or my wolf.

I miss home, I miss my family…. “I miss Bain.” Sam cries.

Tears sting the back of my eyes. We both knew when Rush and Bain moved on, it was as if our hearts tore in two as the earth cracked open and swallowed all the shattered pieces up. Now we sit in a shitty apartment, never to be put back together again. I’ve never experienced pain like it. Until it happened again and again. I wonder if my heart will ever stop breaking.

“Why would they take another?” Sam wails.

“Please, not tonight, Sam. I can’t do this anymore. I need sleep and I need to find a job in the morning.”
