Chapter 19: Euphoria

Charlotte Hayes' POV

"It's alright now," Damien whispered upon my swollen cheeks. My eyes couldn't stop welling in tears. I tightly embraced him; I could feel the warmth of his body, and his raging heart that couldn't stop beating fast.

It was over—but I couldn't stop crying. I could feel a sense of relief now that he's here. This man, whom I barely know, is the man whom I trust my life to. I knew getting involved with this man was a dangerous gamble. But what can I do? Being with him… was my only source of comfort.

"Damien I…" I whispered, as I clutched my hands unto his garments. He was still holding me tightly, when he asked, "Yes?" The atmosphere was silent, the room was bloody, and everyone was avoiding to exchange gaze with us. "T-Thank you," I muttered, with a smile. Damien widened his eyes, expressing sudden surprisement, and smiled. "You're welcome," he closed his eyes.
