The kiss was ended as quickly as it was begun. Anna’s father burst in the room. “Adam and his men are hunting around outside for the entrance. I spread the deer sign around as you said to try and throw them off, but I don’t think it is working. They know we are here. “. He said in an out of breath whisper. He clearly had just come back inside from scouting. Amaris had no idea where their final destination was. They had been on the water for several hours. The sun was high in the sky by this time. They would simply look like tourists to any on lookers except for the fact that none of them had any safety gear on. No helmets, no life jackets, nothing. They only had their backpacks and their paddles. Lyle seemed to have a destination in mind. He led with Gran and Continued without stopping. Anna and Amaris both had paddles, but since the river at this time of year was low and therefore fairly tame they did not have too much to do. There had not been much for rain in a while. Finally they came to a wide bend in the river and a huge sand bar in the center of the curve. It appeared that in times of heavy rain or in the spring thaw this was under water but the rest of the time it looked like it was a favorite play ground for the local otters. The rain started in heavy and kept falling. At first it was a pleasant sound to sleep to, but the relentless pounding, in the end, woke everyone. After a while their convenient sand bar started to get wet. As the water rose it started coming up through the floor of the tent. Amaris began feeling cold and within moments realized that she was getting wet. "The tent is getting wet on the inside too." Amaris said sitting up suddenly. Amaris and Lyle scrambled up as they heard the cries of surprise from the others in the other tent. Looking around the tent they could see that the water was starting to rise and they soon realized that they too were starting to flood. They could no longer stay here. Amaris was now in a panic. Not only did she need to get out of the river, but the only one there to save her was someone that she did not know. The tent was beginning to sink as the weight of the water filling it was pushing it downward. The ropes had become so tangled around Amaris’ feet in the water that it was making it hard for her to kick to stay afloat. There was no one else in sight. If she did not let this wolf pull her out of the water she would drown. She had no choice but to trust the wolf and hope that it was just some wandering wolf that came across her by chance and was willing to risk its life and jump into the river to try and save her.She swam as hard as she could with the weight of the ropes on her. Amaris sucked in a breath. She never dreamed that Marco was helping Adam. “But then Gran contacted me and told me to find you. She said that you were in the river and to get you safe. They will meet us there.” Marco continued unaware that Amaris’ heart rate had just spiked in fear. “Gran is awake?! Where are they? Is everyone else ok?” Marco looked at her questioningly. “I do not know. Gran contacted me in a dreamscape and told me to take you to my hunting cabin. Anna bounded into the bathroom and gave Amaris a big hug. He waves Lyle over, and Amaris follows behind too. Marco turns back to his computer monitor but scoots his chair to one side so that Lyle can take a look. It was video footage from a camera. The footage was grainy, black and white, and was from a camera mounted high up but you are still able to see that the man on the screen is Adam. He appeared to be waiting for someone. After a few seconds, a dark colored car pulls up and rolls down the window. It was a woman at the wheel. Adam bent down and kissed her. They spoke for a few minutes. The conversation became an argument, and the woman sped off without any warning. Marco rewound the video and played it again, but slowed it down to the part where the woman’s face was the most visible.
