Chapter 5

Amara Nicholas

"Ah!!" I let out a loud scream, nearly causing the driver to lose control. I was surprised by the appearance of my spouse.

"What seems to be the issue, madam? Are you okay?" Mr. Timothy asked me, his voice filled with concern, as he slowed down and cautiously gazed at me through the car's rearview mirror.

"Apologies. You can keep driving. I was just surprised to see my husband's face online," I nervously told him. Mr. Timothy smiled, and I made a mental note to avoid screaming foolishly in the future.

The drive resumed, and I gazed at the face of the man who would soon be my husband. Just Darlington Briggs.

I had previously encountered him when I entered the university. Our paths crossed and I accidentally stepped on him while walking with my friend Esther Peters.

Esther was an actress who had a keen eye for attractive and wealthy men at the university.

I found it surprising that Esther Peters, who came from a well-off background, could be influenced by money so easily. After we graduated from university, Esther traveled to a different country and we lost touch, despite her wealthy background.

It would have been convenient if she had been on F******k so I could find her easily, but she hasn't reached out to me even though she knows my real name online.

I silently admired the attractive sight on my phone screen. I had apologized to Darlington then, even though I didn't know his name, and simply said, "I'm sorry." He stared at me in shock, didn't respond, and then walked away.

I never saw him again after finishing my schooling there. He might be in his final year, and I confided in Esther about my secret crush on him.

Now, observing the attractive face that had matured over time, I believe he was the only man I ever admired then.

I noticed other individuals who typically looked up to me, vying for my attention, but I didn't allow them an opportunity. I went out with Esther multiple times, hoping to run into Darlington again and learn more about him. Unfortunately, I rarely have the opportunity to see him.

He was on my mind constantly, the way my heart raced when he caught me as I stumbled.

His strong arms embraced me, preventing me from stumbling to the ground as I was captivated by his presence. Perhaps that's why he didn't speak to me.

Esther taught me the importance of maintaining a composed and confident demeanor, allowing others to be captivated by your presence.

Oops, that wasn't on purpose. Darlington was quite tall and looked incredibly handsome in his casual attire. As he walked away without responding, I noticed a few girls in our school giving me angry looks, as if I had purposely tried to get his attention.

I pondered, "Is this man now my husband?"

I was astonished. Darlington's appearance has greatly improved. I quickly glanced at some of his timeline photos, but my mood shifted when I came across a picture of him with another woman.

"Didn't Father inform me that Darlington was single and waiting for me?"

It was heartbreaking to see a photo of Darlington Briggs with the stunning model he proposed to.

It was heartbreaking to witness the joy on their faces as he got down on one knee and proposed.

The sound of my heart shattering echoed as I witnessed their beautiful union, accompanied by Darlington's caption: "She said yes to me. I'm feeling really happy at the moment."

I felt a rush of emotions, my eyes filling with tears and my heart racing. I had a strong desire to shout and ask the driver to stop the car and take me back home to my father's house.

However, I recalled my father's advice to bring my children and his future grandchildren back home. In addition, I recall inquiring with my mother about Darlington's relationship status.

I realized I had never been in a relationship; I was inexperienced. It's unlikely for a man who grew up in the city with a billionaire father not to have a girlfriend, as my mother described them and advised me not to overpack the night before. My fashion sense didn't impress my mother either.

I was surprised and hurt when I saw the photos of Darlington and his girlfriend. He tagged her profile along with his own as "my baby."

Jenna Colton had a substantial online following. At least a million followers. She was a well-known figure in Country Z, and I'm curious about the reception I would receive there.

"I believe this man was unaware of our marriage. I doubt he would accept me, especially with 'his baby' present." I muttered, reluctantly followed my parents' wishes and embarked on the journey to the city, despite my own reservations.

It was important to me to fulfill my parents desires before embracing my independence. I need directions to the Briggs Family Mansion to visit Darlington and his family.

I need to confirm if I am married to him or not. My father was deceived by his friend, who took care of everything.

I couldn't believe I was forced into a marriage with my father's friend, pretending to be his son's wife. Once I arrive in the city, I'll discover the answers.

Looking at numerous pictures of Darlington and the beautiful, fair-skinned woman has left me feeling quite down. I didn't feel as attractive or elegant as her, and I was aware that I would be judged and seen as a villain for getting involved in someone else's relationship. However, I needed to verify all the facts before making a final decision.

I settled into the car seat and we drove for hours to the city. I quickly dozed off in the rear.
