Chapter 11

Jean was back at home. Jenny was pacing back and forth in the living room. Her cell phone kept ringing, but she was too afraid to pick it up.

She sat down on the settee and looked at Jean with a look on her face, as if she wanted to eat Jean alive.

“You tell me, why didn’t you control yourself? As horrible as Patrick was, you didn’t have to cut off your nose to spite your face. I can help you fix Patrick and Selena. You didn’t have to ruin yourself for him.”

Jean laughed self-deprecatingly. “I don’t want to be like that. I have had enough. I don’t want that.” She paused, her eyes reddening. “I don’t want to eat dirt like my mom. While those women are still enjoying a good life, my mom…”

It was only then Jean showed the softer side of hers.

She was only twenty-three.

She wore no makeup. Hidden under her fair, delicate skin was uncompromising self-will.

Jenny saw her face and softened her tone. She sat down next to her and gave her a hug. “Tell me, who is the man hurting you?”

Jenny was the person who knew Jean’s life best, but she had never known that Jean had such a man.

Jean shook her head, not wanting to talk about last night. How was she going to tell Jenny that she did not know who that man was?

Jenny shook her head. “Forget it. I won’t ask anymore. But you had better buckle up for what is coming next. I will try my best to explain to the company what happened but don’t expect too much. The situation outside has gone haywire right now. I have to go back to the office to pick up after you. I’m leaving now. If you have anything, call me.”

“Thank you, Jenny.”

Jenny grabbed her phone and hurried out the door.

Jean’s cell phone rang. It was Anne.

“Are you sleeping, Jean?”

“Not yet.”

“Do you want to come out and have a drink? Do you remember I told you before that I would introduce my fiancé to you? But it is okay if you don’t feel like coming.”

‘Don’t come. Please don’t come. Just don’t come.’ Anne prayed in her mind.

But things did not go her way.

“Where?” In Jean’s mind, Anne was an innocent woman. She had promised Anne to check out his fiancé on her behalf. Besides, she needed to get some fresh air and clear her mind.

“Club Elegance.”

“I will be right there.”

The line went dead, and Anne became anxious. She regretted mentioning Jean in front of them and agreeing to call Jean over. What happened if Etan found out that Jean was the woman he had slept with last night?

She put up a smile. “Jean will be here in a while. She is my best friend. Be nice to her.”

“Don’t worry, Anne. We all are very hospitable.”

Not that she did not know the lecherous minds behind their laughter.

But since things had come to such a pass, she might as well pray these guys would live up to their notorious reputation and send Jean to run away in humiliation.
