Chapter 2

Zack's POV

If only I knew what would befall me if I came to this pack, I wouldn't have come here at all. All day, I couldn't get her off my head.

Fuck. She was none like them. None like the older ladies I liked to be with. Then why?

I asked myself multiple times as I stared at the drink in my right hand. The fucker, Jackson had been talking about the stuck-up reasons I should treat his pack with kindness.

I chuckled. Kindness - that word doesn't exist in my dictionary. And if only my father could get off my neck about disappointing him time and time again maybe I wouldn't be so pissed off all the time.

Well, he should go to hell for all I cared. He was never satisfied. I wonder how an old man could be so demanding.

Over the years, I tried to understand him. Heaven knows I tried. But he was just like a stupid piece of the puzzle that went missing, never to be found again.

I sighed, bringing my focus back to the present. Jude or Jack, whatever his name was, blabbered and fidgeted in his seat.

And I felt a wave of pleasure. I wanted more of that fear as I fixed my gaze on him.

“I mean, we have pretty ladies in this pack that would be more than willing to be your slave, maid, or servant.”

I laughed, but it didn't reach my eyes. I hated him. I hated all the elders that sat at the table not daring to make eye contact with me.

They were all spineless fools who could give away poor girls just to save their heads.

“And what if I say no?” I broke eye contact with the sucker.

To be honest, the drink in my hand was more interesting than him. I was getting bored here and that was bad. Especially since my wolf had been restless since last night.

The run I had two hours ago did little to calm him down. And now, his foul mood was slowly getting to me.

Whenever this happens, I crave the smell of blood. It was a good thing I was in this idiot's pack. I won't hesitate to bring down the entire pack if that would make my wolf calm.

Looking up, I caught the sucker looking over the table at the elders. They shook with fear as they whispered among themselves.

The Alpha appeared speechless. No amount of gifts would spare his pack the bloodshed I intend to carry out.

This was just the fun before the real game began. I itched to get off the table and start the business as soon as possible.

Lucas, my Beta shifted in his seat. He too was getting bored.

“Since you have nothing more to offer, I guess this is my cue to begin what I came here for,” I said, bringing the room back to its silence.

“Please Alpha Stone, just give us one more day to think of the thing that could please you,” he called me by the name I had earned over the years at the Alpha's academy.

And I loved it. It portrayed me as the exact person I was - body and mind hard like a stone.

“Should we?” I looked at Lucas, already knowing his answer.

Lucas was my best friend and also my Beta. He was the only person who understood me.

“No, Alpha. I think we should start immediately.”

“Good. And my wolf also agreed with that. He had been very restless lately. A little blood of an Alpha would calm him down,” I said, enjoying the tremor that shook the idiot Alpha's eyes.

“Alpha, please…”

He stopped because just then, a little knock came in the door. Seconds later, a petite girl walked into the room carrying cups and a jug.

There was something about her I couldn't place. Her face was hidden behind her hair as she walked into the room. Her steps were small but firm like she had surrendered her fate already to whatever might happen in the room.

“I told you not to fucking come in!” The incompetent baby Alpha roared, slamming his fists on the table.

“I'm sorry, Alpha,” the girl said. Her voice was emotionless. And I became intrigued.

I don't think I had ever been intrigued by someone except by my ex. And that was like a decade ago.

“Sorry for your bloody ass. Now to the dungeon. You're getting whipped for disobedience.”

“I don't think she should be the one getting whipped,” I spoke up and all eyes went to me including the girl.

I fought off the urge to gape at her as an indescribable feeling flowed through me. My head was calm as my wolf suddenly stopped pacing.

The girl was beautiful. I thought she must be the biological daughter of the moon goddess. Because what manner of beauty is this? It was ethereal. Even with her dirty clothes and pale skin, she didn't look like a maid.

And I knew I wanted her.

I continued when I focused back on my drink, “You should be getting whipped for telling a lie. You didn't tell her not to come in.”

“I told her before coming here.”

I shrugged and looked at the Alpha, “Well, the time has passed. And she can't be whipped for doing her job.”

I saw anger dance in his eyes as he glared at the girl, “Fine, she won't be whipped.”

The girl looked confused for a moment as she stared at me. Then, like a switch, the emotion was gone, replaced by her blank expression as she exited the room.

The room was doused in silence as I contemplated my next move. There were hushed whispers amongst the sick elders.

“Well, today is your lucky day because you have a lucky charm,” I broke the silence, “Your pack would be having some peace as I take her to be my slave.”

I caught Lucas's head whip toward me. His eyes held questions I had no answers to.

Why did I fucking want her? She was clearly an abused girl who was no different from other girls.

No, scratch that.  She was much more different. Her eyes held mysteries I wanted to uncover so badly. And until I get bored of her, this pack will have a moment's rest.

“Thank you so much, Alpha Stone. I can't thank you enough for this. It means a lot to us,” The baby Alpha looked at the elders who nodded their heads in agreement.

I smirked, “it's nothing. But don't get too comfortable. She's just a temporary peace treaty.”

I stood up from the table and walked to the door, all too aware of the anger on baby Alpha's face which he tried to hide.

“Why did you do that?” Lucas asked immediately as we walked into our rooms.

I collapsed on the bed, trying to get her eyes off my head. I can't afford to lose focus now. Not when my pack had numerous failed attempts at being attacked.

It brought anger to my veins when I thought about who might be behind it.

Lucas's phone rang and he gave it to me. Looking at the caller ID, it was my father.

“What?!” I snapped, irritated at having to talk to him even when I was away from the pack.

“Don't use that tone on me son! There's another attack. This one's bigger. Bring your sorry ass right over here!” He said and ended the call.

I growled at the tone of his voice and the information. That fucker trying to attack my pack will regret ever being born when I lay my hands on him.
