A surprise

Before the others returned, Mitch had already bathed me and tidied up the room. He didn't want them to feel jealous that he got to be with me when they were out working.

Mike prepared dinner before he called out to us. Mitch carried me downstairs — despite my protests— and set me on my chair, taking his place next to me as Mike and Miles joined us.

“How are you feeling?” Miles asked as he came over to my side of the table. He placed a kiss on my forehead, winking.

They were gradually returning to how they were, treating me like they had always done, which worked for me.

“Good,” I replied with a smile, blushing when Mike pecked my left cheek.

“That's great,” Mike commented.

“So, when can I start work?” I questioned them, frowning when they shared looks. “I hope you don't intend to keep me shut in this house forever?” I raised an eyebrow at them.
