Trouble in the pack

“Again?” I frowned, looking up from my laptop at Mike, who had just returned from a call we got from the elders. I was busy with some last-minute preparations with Miles, who we sent him to check what the call was.

“The same.” He nodded, sitting on the armchair across from mine. “The mode of death is still the same,” he added.

“Their organs?” Miles questioned.

“Taken.” Sighing, Mike relaxed in the chair. “I doubt I would ever get used to that gruesome scene.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose as I closed the laptop to focus on him. This was the 10th case of horrid murder since this week. It started 7 days ago when we lost one of the best hunters in the pack.

They are not what their names implied, though. Before we adopted technology and all that, the ones born into the hunters' family were great rangers. They know the forest like the back of their hands, and the right candidates to take with you for a hunt.

But since the adoption of technology, they were now used as guards. H
