33. The Offer

I got home to an empty house and the hope I had diminished.

Walking to Kai’s study, I hoped he would let me clarify what had happened.

I entered his office, this wasn't the first time I had seen his office, but it was the first I was looking at closely, now that I was the only one there.

The study was big and spacious with a couch on each side of the room, and in the middle of the room were Kai’s desk and chair, beside his chair, and at the side of the office were shelves filled with books.

I walked to the shelf behind his chair, since I was going to wait for him, I might as well keep myself busy by reading a book.

I was looking through the books on the shelves when a book caught my attention from the corner of my eye.

Sitting at the table was a really old looking book.

I picked it up and read the title.

“Curses” I read out loud, wondering what a book for witches was doing in Kai’s room.
