Lexi’s POV

Turning as fast as I could, my world drained of all its colors and my heart skipped a beat as I turned to look in the direction of my kids.

Relief washed over me, my heart unclenched and I was finally able to breathe again when I saw both Adeline and Cassian in a good situation.

Neither of them were hurt, the bullet moved right past them. My head turned back in Darren’s direction.

Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked up at him, my heart had started racing, head was pounding and everything looked like it was spinning.

My eyes closed but I opened it again as I forced myself to join both my hands together, “Darren, please.” I let out.

I felt my strength draining and life drawing out of me, holding onto the pillar beside me for support. Adeline and Cassian were already crying.

“Mommy,” Adeline called, it was a struggle to keep my eyes open, to keep the conversation going.

“Are you okay?” She asked and I nodded affirmatively even though I knew that I was very far from being ok
