Chapter 69 –  Work And Live

(Lexi’s POV)

I leaned my back on the cold elevator wall while my eyes bored at the numbers in the control panel, wishing life was as easy as going up and down the lift. Sleep was unkind to me, not visiting me while I was in bed, so instead of waiting for it, even at midnight, I got up and left home.

The security personnel was surprised to see an employee walking like a zombie, but the older man welcomed me with a gentle smile as soon as he recognized me.

“You’re early today, Lexi,” he smiled, creasing his forehead.

“Plenty of work,” I lied. I wish I could tell him I couldn’t sleep even if I wanted to. I knew Lexa woke up when I got up, but I was thankful she gave me the space by not talking or asking me where I was going.

“We live to work, not work to live, Lexi,” Manny chuckled, shaking his head as he logged my name, the early bird for the day.

“It’s still a debatable topic, Manny,” Laughing softly as I put on my ID card.
