Chapter 3

This is my first time being here and I feel like I have been here before; as much as I hate to admit it, it feels so homey. Everyone and everything seems to be routined, perfect if I would like to exaggerate. This is seriously over my expectations, I thought that the land of werewolves will be different; it will look brutal, and bloody but here I see and feel nothing but peace and harmony. Victoria always tells me that the land was ominous but now that I’m here I don’t think of it that way. Maybe it’s because I just got here, maybe it’s because she never wanted to let me leave and maybe it’s because the werewolves are hiding behind their hypocrisy, after all, no human is here with them. Yet.

"So, what do you think?" Jane asks

Jane is Victoria’s sister’s daughter, she is my age and she is my gateway to the werewolf land. I can’t explain how happy I was when I met her, although Victoria thought it was a big mistake introducing Jane to me probably because Jane supported my stupid decision as Victoria would like to put it that way. I don’t really know much about Jane because I met her once but I can say with full certainty that she’s the crazy kind of girl, the good crazy, I prefer.

"Uhm…. I just got here, so I can’t tell if it’s nice or not." I respond turning back to look through the window.

"I’m very sure you will love it here, Aristo, is a beautiful town," The driver asks

"Aristo?" I say turning back to clarify what my ears transmitted to me

"I’m guessing she doesn’t like the name," Jane says to the driver

"No, I don’t….I mean…..It’s not that bad." I say as the name wondered around my mind. This is the first time I heard this name but it sounds so familiar, it’s like I have heard it before.

"Driver if I may ask, for how long has this land been called Aristo?" I ask

"Woow! You did not just refer my boyfriend as your driver." Jane says crossing her arms above her chest

"What?"

"He is my boyfriend, not some big-headed pot-bellied guy you’ll address as a driver."

"Ohh! Well, if you have told me that long ago I wouldn’t have addressed him as the driver." I say

"Fair enough." She shrugged

"I don’t actually blame Maya for calling me a driver, after all, I dressed up like one." He says

"You know my name?" I ask wondering how he got to know my name.

"Yeah, I told him your name and everything." Jane says

My heart skipped as she said that last word everything. How can Jane be so stupid, how can she just tell him everything about me, he is a werewolf for god sake, once everything gets out of control, he is gonna spill it out and eventually feed on me before I could get my revenge.

I need to calm down. I’m panicking too much.

I inhaled and exhaled, trying to feel better but no! I don’t feel any good.

"You told him everything?" I asked to confirm.

"Yeah, I’m sorry about that but trust me, Ryle isn’t going to say a thing to anyone."

"What!!"

"Relax, I know you don’t like it when people know that you haven’t wolfed out yet but trust me it’s not that embarrassing." She says as she winks at me.

I huff relaxing back on the seat, that was a relief, for a moment I felt like punching several holes on her. I turned back to look through the window, indeed Aristo is a beautiful but busy town. My mind drifted back to the beautiful memory of my childhood, I can’t really remember everything but I knew I was happy, very happy, and grateful until the time when those brown ominous eyes came and……

Frustration and anger settled heavily against my chest. I won’t spare that asshole that took away my happiness, I will kill that monster.

The car started to jerk forward, pulling me out of my trance "Is everything okay?" I ask

"Err, not really; I think the car is about to break down." Ryle says, giving a nervous laugh

"Oh shit! Not now, come on babe, why did you bring this car in the first place when I specifically told you to take the black one." Jane snaps at him

"Sorry, babe didn’t expect this to happen."

"Oh, man." She huffs resting her back against the chair "You better do something about this."

"Yeah, yeah, I know."

Dodging several honking cars, Ryle frantically moved towards the outside lane before parking the car in front of a busy shop. I am still surprised by how werewolves act so casually as if they are humans.

"I will go check it out and get it running back with energy," Ryle says

"Do it fast, I’m starving," Jane says.

"Sure babe." He blows a kiss at her and steps out of the car.

I let a small sigh and relaxed my back on the seat. I look through the window, scanning the environment. The bright sandy ponytail of a beautiful little girl playing with flowers caught my eye. I looked up to the sign on the store, Daisy Daisies; the wind blew scattering small petals, whipping the little girl's hair around her face, and a small smile played on my lips. She looked so beautiful and what was more beautiful is that her dad was playing along with her.

It looked magical

I may not recall a lot about my childhood but I do know that my dad was a very nice man, he must have loved me just the way that man loves his daughter. I continued to watch the little girl not because I was bored but because she is an adoring sight and she reminds me of myself.

"Hey, Maya, Ryle, and I will go check out the store to get some snacks," Jane says drafting my attention

Still looking at the little girl I respond "Okay."

"You need anything?" She asks

I shook my head in disagreement not wanting to miss any second of that moment.

I wish I could just watch this over and over again. They make me happy.

Not quite long after Jane spoke, a group of half-naked men walked into my field of view blocking the little girl. As they walked past the flower shop, I noticed how people parted ways, and just then; a tall man walks up and pushes the little girl’s father making him fall to the ground.

Why the hell did he do that?

Without looking down at the girl’s father, he walks up to the girl who was already streaming with tears as if she is aware of what he is going to do. Emotionless, he turns to the men that came with him and said something under his breath, one of the men nodded and grabbed the little girl with her arm. Crying and begging, the little girl looked at her father who was still laying on the ground probably injured. He grabs the little girl's father’s shirt collar and pinned him to the wall, whispering words to him that somehow the father was nodding and pleading in his response. After questioning him, which only took some seconds, he threw him to the minions and turn to leave along with the little girl whose arm was held tightly as if she was an enemy. But why? Is it because she’s human?

The tears of that girl remind me of how I cried when I saw that monster eating up my mother. I have to help that girl. Before I knew it, I was getting out of the car; if anyone doesn’t care about that girl I do.

"Hey!" I yell, my shoes hitting the ground faster and faster as I tried to catch up with him and his minions "Hey, asshole" I yell. People gasped as they realized I was going after him.

I groaned in annoyance, increasing my pace, and finally, I caught up with him and pushed him from his broad back, making him jerk forward, and his men turned to me with angry stares ready to attack. I have to admit, I am very scared right now and I can feel my palms sweating. But though I stood to my ground

"Let her go," I say

He turns around slowly, taking off his sunglasses and handing them over to one of his minions. I raised my brow at him and was about to lash out when I caught the sight of his entire face; I clenched my teeth hard to stop my jaw from dropping, locking my laps together at what I just felt and saw. His eyes, dark, stern, and sharp, made me want to curl up in one corner; his well-defined cheekbones seems to only give his face a glow, and his full brows which at first I found irritating but now, I could just drool over them, His lips, this stranger's full lips were pressed in a thin line, but managed to lure me into this intense trance that I never imagined.

What are you doing Maya? He is a ruthless asshole. Stand your ground; save that little girl.

I blinked my senses back into my brain.

"Who do you think you are? You can’t just knock down that man on the ground and then shamelessly take away his daughter." I say to him

With his eyes squinting due to the sun and his jaw clenched hard, he looked around for what felt like five seconds before his eyes wandered back to mine.

"Mind your business lady." He says; his voice and expression were void of emotion, not even a slight look of anger on his immaculate features.

I was beginning to feel intimidated "It’s not about me minding my business it’s about you doing the right thing."

He scoffed and looked around again, a small crowd began forming. What is wrong with everyone here, even if that little girl is human it doesn’t mean that he has the right to take her away.

Some people gave me the silly eye signal message to leave the issue but no! I couldn’t save my mom but at least I will save this little girl.

"Let her go," I say; my words came out as a command

"Look lady, I don’t have time for this so why don’t you turn around and head back to wherever you came from and I will be on my way." His voice was still calm and his face still showed no emotions

A lady from the crowd frantically gestured with his hands that I should leave but I ignored her.

"Just let her go, she has nothing to do with this," I say

With an expressionless look, he asked "Are you done?"

I gasped feeling insulted

"No, I’m not! You are so full of yourself, aren’t you? Look at that girl, doesn’t she look hurt to you?"

Without taking a look at her, he says "She’s fine."

I was stunned by that, and I quickly looked at the little girl to see she was still sobbing and her father wasn’t even trying to console her.

"You have no heart, don’t you?"

"Yes I don’t, now are you done?" He asks

I feel like this is getting personal, this has to stop. Not anymore, someone has to explain why they hate humans.

"I just don’t get it with you guys and your hatred towards humans, why, just tell me one thing why?" I yell

The crowd gasps and he rises an eyebrow.

"Human?" He says; now his face was full of emotions but I couldn’t read his expression.

My heart was going a mile a minute as I started to panic, not because I was standing under hot sun and arguing with a man who could feed on me but because I missed my morning vitamins and didn’t take them for lunch. I blinked gulping the energy into me.

"Yes human, ju-just, because she’s a hu-human, doesn’t mean yo-you can treat her the way you like," I said

"Okay, I guess we are done here." He says

"N-no, we are- we" My breath was becoming short and fast, feeling like no matter how much I breathe in I wasn’t getting enough oxygen into my lungs. "L-let her g-go"

"Is something wrong……."

"Ju-just let her g-" Before I could finish the sentence, my vision started to go sporty and the last thing I heard was a voice asking me if I’m alright and before I knew it, I lost consciousness and blacked out.
