Melody Von Line found her parking spot in a rush. She was late again. Taking her purse from beside her, Melody took a pill case from her purse and popped a pill. She wasn’t ill. These were scent blockers. Something she had to take every day she worked. Why? Because she was a fox within a den of wolves. Shifters, every one of them. But wolves saw foxes as prey, and the two sets of shifters didn’t work with each other ever. So here she was with the opportunity to work in the top firm on Bay Street. She was working alongside the legendary Wolf of Bay Street.
Melody didn’t know when she applied. He was actually a wolf shifter. So, to keep her job, Melody pretended to be human. Hence the need for scent blockers.
Standing outside of her car, she sprayed herself down with a perfume she made of lavender and vanilla. It was a popular scent right now for human women. She just altered her formula to help hide anything she missed.
A look at her phone as a text came in surprised her. It was from Malcolm, himself. How did he know her number? His assistant must have sent it. All it read, ‘Meet me at Starbucks in the lobby as soon as you get here. Malcolm.’
They were supposed to be having a team meeting, and he was demanding to see her already. That was never good. It went through her mind that she might get taken off the project or get the sack. Either way, she wouldn’t know until she got there. At least she’ll be able to get her morning coffee now.
The building’s lobby was where the large coffee shop was located. There was no way of missing Malcolm Richards in a crowd. The man lived in designer suits. He stood head and shoulders over everyone else but his assistant. With his thick dark hair and a neat wave. Between his colouring and form, she couldn’t deny he’d make an impressive wolf. But it was his eyes, sapphire blue with a hint of his wolfish nature.
Melody couldn’t tell you what colour his tie or shirt was because she got lost in those eyes. Her body craved his, but so far, she’d resisted approaching him as others did regularly. Melody didn’t want to get lost in the sea of rejection. Malcolm was an alpha. That meant he made the move, not his lovers. Also, she liked her stressful job and she worried if she could keep her secret up close and personal with the handsome predator. At least, that’s what she told herself.
Malcolm was on the lookout and his focus zeroed in on her instantly. Her dark auburn hair and coppery colouring did not surprise him. Her delicate features also stood out in any crowd.
Melody swore she could feel his eyes eating up every inch of hers as she approached, and Melody used it to boost her confidence.
“Mr. Richards.”
“Miss Von Line.” She could hear him teasing her for being so formal, but they were out in public. She’d keep it professional if it were the last thing she did.
“I’m glad you could meet me so quickly.”
“I was on my way up to the office for the meeting. May I ask why you asked me to meet you here?”
“Just to ease your mind. There’s nothing wrong. I wanted to tell you I’ve requested that you work with me on the coming project. Will that be a problem? We may have to work over the long weekend.”
“I don’t see a problem with that.” She saw the look in his eyes change. Melody knew that look on any shift. They were all erotic creatures and that look she’d seen him use on others. Now it was her turn to feel her insides melt, preparing to give him a welcome he’d always remember.
“We’ll be together, alone at my cottage. Are you still fine with it?”
“I see. Let me get a coffee and I’ll continue this.” She would control what she could of this. He wasn’t the only shifter in this. Melody wouldn’t leave here without her morning coffee.
“Jordan has taken it up for you, along with that blueberry muffin you like so much.” Wait, he knew of her addiction to blueberry muffins? That amazed her. No man saw that before.
“Thank you. So, back to the subject at hand. This won’t be a working weekend and we both know it. It will start when I arrive at your cottage and end when I leave. That, sir, is a potent and tempting offer. Send me directions and I’ll be there tonight.” She dared to stand close to him and whisper it in his ears only in the sexiest voice she could, without losing eye contact with him. “I expect that after this weekend, when we’re both out of each other’s systems, we can continue to work together?”
He stood there listening and feasting on her image. Her face, the fact he could now see down her blouse and revealed the firm curve of her breasts. She smiled when a sensual smile slid in place on his full lips.
Her foxy nature tempted her to push up on her tiptoes and nip at that smile.
“Now we have a meeting to get through before the fun and games can start. No message before three pm, I won’t be there. But I’ll await that message. See you upstairs.” She practically purred her words to him before she turned and left the coffee shop.
Now Melody didn’t need that coffee. That exchange was more than enough. She’d been distracted for most of the day now. Melody hoped he would be just as distracted. But since they’d be across from the table, she could give him several subtle reminders of how she wouldn’t be like his other conquests.
At the elevator, she smartly stepped into it and turned around, smiling at him with all the promise of hot steamy nights to come. She only prayed he didn’t figure out that she was a fox.
Malcolm woke up this morning and quickly assessed his life. He’d requested to work with his associate, Melody Von Line. If there was a burlesque name, he’d never heard. The name warned a man of exactly what he’d get. She was sex personified and that he needed to get out of his system, or she would break his concentration too much. So, today he’d start his campaign to have her. He figure by his response to her he’d need a long weekend to work her out of his system. His driver’s service picked him up. His assistant and Beta Jordan Blacksmith. A tall blonde man with similar eyes to Malcolm. It was the wolf in both of them and the fact that they were distantly related on Malcolm’s mother’s side of Jordan’s father. “Morning.” Jordan said as Malcolm settled into his seat. “So, what’s on the docket for today that I should know about?” “I’m taking the long weekend off for once. You need to pick up one of those blueberry muffins Ms. Von Line likes and her favourite cof
Melody walked Ellie out of the building so that Ellie didn’t encounter anyone she shouldn’t. She then made it clear that Ellie must stay away from Jordan at all costs. Once she resigned here, that wouldn’t be a problem for Ellie or Melody. Back at her desk, she skipped lunch to finish as much work as she could. Before she lost her mind thinking of how her mother must have died alone in her small apartment in the den. Melody didn’t need to mourn now. She’d have plenty of time to grieve privately at a later date. Now, Melody must resign without notice and she hated it. She’d lose financially, but that didn’t matter when she was back in the den. So, she wrote the letter that ended her career here. She couldn’t tell anyone. There’s be too many questions she couldn’t answer, and she didn’t want any wolves threatening the den. They had kits there. Unlike the wolves. Most foxes were peaceful and not ready for fighting. Malcolm called her for an impromptu meeting at the end o
“Nice place you have here. I love what you’ve done with the scenery.” Malcolm knew her eyes never stopped eating him up. He could feel her gaze and it went straight to his head. That wasn’t the one on shoulders either. Gods, she had him hard just getting out of her car and looking at him. The electric excitement of this new encounter had him walking down the stair to her almost bowl legged. When he finally stood before her, his fingers tore that bun from her hair and tangled there while his lips came down on hers, demanding a deep, longing kiss. Malcolm didn’t rush it. No, he savoured her sweetness. That lavender and vanilla curled around him, hopping up his need to explore every inch of her. His memory went back to her words in his office this afternoon. She’d let him find out if her panties matched her bra. “That’s better. No more buns here, and that was an improvement to that first greeting.” “Really? You won’t just take me against the warm hood of my car? Just flip my
Just like in business, Melody delivered. Her playful nature was temptation itself. It was all he could do to contain his desire to sink into her for hours. He could smell her scent of her desire over her perfume. Like him, she felt the need to shed her business shell and open herself fully to their experience. They didn’t need to talk about this being only for now. When they agreed on it, she made it clear in the coffee shop. She was steaming hot with her purple bra and bare feet. She was so horny that when she walked her hips gave him come hither vibes and he’d follow them. In the cottage again, she kissed her, drink in her pliant curves and eager kisses. They made it into the bedroom, and she excused herself so she could use the bathroom. Now he stripped down to only his pants. Clothing was too restrictive. Gods, he so rarely of this worked up over a woman. But for him, he was riding the high. Melody was scrambling in the bathroom. She could feel her foxish nature
He was the size of a beast. When he first drove into her, she could feel him fill her so completely that she lost herself to the experience. So ready for him. He glided in and out of her with slow, even building thrusts. Even when he lost it and came, she responded to the core deep fiery bursts of his completion. Her own extended with each rush of heat. Now that heat settled in her belly and kept her mellow. She wanted to purr like her fox. But she resisted. She dozed through the fuzzy pleasurable high he left her with. When she woke, he was returning to bed with a couple of glasses of red wine. “I’m surprised you don’t have any hunting trophies on display.” Malcolm made a face. “I make enough conquest at work. I don’t need to be watched by things I kill. It always seemed gory and wrong to hunt for sport.” Melody studied Malcolm’s face for a moment. A wolf not lost in the hunt. This was new and different. But to protect her secret, she said nothing more. “I’d rather hunt
Malcolm would not let her leave the bed. He brought everything to them that night. Never in his life did he have to resist doing something. But he felt it was too soon. Malcolm didn’t want to scare Melody by restraining her too soon. Now he felt the weekend wouldn’t be long enough to explore everything and get her out of his system. This was their first night together and he could keep himself out of her tight core. Just the thought of driving into her again only amplified his urge, seeing if he could knot inside her again. She wouldn’t forget this weekend until the day she died. He’d make sure of it, because he didn’t want to be the only one remembering it. Malcom pulled her onto the bed, and he sat against the headboard. She watched him, eager to follow his instructions. “Straddle my lap, but not close enough for you to take my shaft inside you. See? Lean back and hold your ankles. Now thrust you hips up towards me. Good girl. Excellent, you’re so open and hmmm… ready for an
Melody used the bathroom after Malcolm returned. When she returned, he was asleep. She drank her wine as she watched the night through the wall of windows. Gods, if there were eyes out there looking back, they must have a great show. She couldn’t help but touch her bare flesh, remembering what his touch felt like and how it made her feel. She feared that she’d want to get used to being with him. But even if she stayed, they’d agreed it would end Monday. When they left this place. Her heart wept at that because she couldn’t harden it now. The fun and games were too real right now. She had to remind herself that this was for the best. That she couldn’t maintain this. Right now, she was all too aware of the surrounding scents. The scent of their mingle passion lit up the room. Even after a shower, she could smell him on her body. It did things to her that made her knees go weak. Now she’d climb into bed beside him and attempt to sleep. When she slipped naked into bed with Ma
That aggressive nature found its way into a heated encounter there on the shore, with him taking her like the animal he knew he was. It was all he could do to not lose himself and bite her. The urge was stronger than ever before, and it scared the crap out of him. This he had to unpack before he went too far. “What time is it?” He’d knotted inside her again and she tried desperately not to say she knew what that meant. Melody prayed her birth control would work because him taking her like this was bliss incarnate. “Four thirty-four. Why?” She couldn’t tell him. Gods, she should have taken a scent blocker half an hour ago. “It’s nothing. I’ll be back in a moment.” She grabbed her daypack and moved into the tree line. Crap, she was screwed if he scented her fox and with all the sex, she was sure her fox would fly her colours from here to North Bay if it weren’t for the pills. She popped another pill and tried to hang out while it took effect. This was a mess she cou
