Vision

The young wolf stifled a yawn, playing with the sun’s rays that slipped between her slender fingers.

She placed one arm under her head, letting the shade of the live oak planted before she was born hide her from the sun’s harmful glare.

Jordane lay flat on the ground, the grass tickling her skin. The events from last night would have been forgotten if not for the vivid images of the fine-looking Alpha she met by accident.

The soft rustle of someone approaching disrupted her lustful thoughts. When Jordane looked up, Livvy’s silhouette had blocked the sun’s rays that she had been playing with.

Eyeing her friend thoughtfully, Jordane considered the messy glory of Livvy’s hair and the visible sparkle in her bright eyes.

“Oh. My…” Jordane sat up, grabbing Livvy to sit with her. The latter chuckled, yelping one ‘oof’ when her butt hit the ground. “Goddess! What happened? Give me the juice but not in full detail.”

Livvy smacked her lips, tracing an invisible zipper on them, causing the former to pout and clasp her hands together as if praying.

Jordane blinked rapidly, begging her friend to tell her how her night went. She was sure it was better than hers.

“Livvy! Please don’t kill me with the suspense. Come on.”

Livvy snorted, narrowing her gaze at Jordane. She pointed an accusatory finger at her friend, making Jordane raise an apprehensive brow.

“You owe me an explanation first. Where did you run off to? Your mother asked me twice last night and this morning about whether you found your mate or at least tried.”

Jordane pressed her lips, sighing ambiguously as she threw her body back to the ground. Having the sun’s glorious rays on her sight, she contemplated whether to tell her friend about the Alpha or keep it.

“Jadie,” Livvy sounded seriously annoyed. Jordane made up her mind and chuckled.

“Liv,” she started, lifting her hands to play with the rays again. “I met someone.”

Jordane wanted to skip to the good parts only. She kept the strange dream about the scarred man to herself.

‘There’s no point in reliving the experience by telling someone. Besides, they will think I’m crazy.’

Jordane thought. She placed an arm under her head and focused her thoughts on the Alpha she met by the lake.

He was undoubtedly the most handsome werewolf she had ever seen. His muscular body, piercing blues, and how he had looked at Jordane, his eyes twinkling with a promise of nothing good, had her heart skipping.

Biting her lower lip, Jordane noticed Livvy’s body heat coming close. Her statement had excited the latter, calling her to join Jordane on the grass.

With her elbows supporting her weight, Livvy giddily squealed.

“Where?! When?! How?! I need details now!”

Jordane laughed, her voice echoing in the half-empty vegetable plantation.

Esmeralda had wanted Jordane to help at the meat shop. They have one in town, a little farther away from their territory.

It was a family business. But Jordane wasn’t feeling up to it to leave for town. She was fortunate to find the perfect excuse when Anita, Maki’s wife, fell sick. They were helpers on the vegetable plantation.

They grow their crops to keep the growing community well-fed and not rely solely on meat.

The task was divided among the wolves. Each had a turn to take part in tending to the field. It was mainly volunteer work, and Jordane gladly presented to take Anita’s place to decline her mother’s order today.

“Well,” Jordane sighed dreamily. But she cut off the imagination, rolling to her side as she put one elbow up and supported her head with one hand. She squinted at Livvy. “I’ll tell you when you tell me about yours first.”

Livvy knitted her brows, throwing Jordane a slight glare before she rolled her eyes and lay flat on the grass.

“You remember Zach?”

Jordane gasped, her eyes widening in surprise, awe, and everything in between.

“No,” she snickered. “You did not give him your—”

“We had a good time,” Livvy remarked, cutting off Jordane’s sentence. The latter put a hand over her mouth, still in utter disbelief.

“You’re not pulling my leg, right? I mean, Liv, after he broke your heart three years ago and chose Loren over you, you swore never to talk to him. Like ever again.”

“I know,” Livvy replied, her voice sounding distant. “But, Jadie…” she trailed off, rolling on her side to face Jordane.

“We both felt it last night.”

Jordane blinked, her mouth slowly dropping to a wide o.

“No,” she scoffed. “No way. He’s your mate?”

Livvy nodded.

Jordane scrambled to get back on her feet. She ran a hand through her hair.

“That…”

Suddenly, Livvy burst into a wave of laughter. She was doubling over, pounding on the ground, while Jordane folded her arms over her chest.

When Livvy calmed down, she joined Jordane and picked up the basket she had abandoned when she found Jordane.

Handing it to her friend, Livvy smiled innocently.

“You better start working, or your mother will definitely have a word with you later. It would surely piss her off when she learns you’re slacking.”

Jordane snatched the basket, finding a lone yellow bell inside. With no hesitation, Jordane got the flower and put it behind her ears.

“I know you won’t report me. But for the prank, I won’t tell you about the stranger I met,” with that, Jordane turned and left Livvy behind.

The latter raced after Jordane, slinking an arm over her free one, leaning and drawing her lips to Jordane’s ears.

“But I’m pretty sure you are dying to tell me about it,” she whispered.

Jordane snorted but couldn’t argue. Livvy was right. Still, Jordane knew how she could take advantage of the situation.

“Yes,” Jordane agreed. “About that…”

But her words trailed off as a sharp pain from the back of her head made the young wolf drop the basket and stop in her tracks.

Although Livvy tried to ask what happened, a loud ringing in her ears made it impossible for Jordane to hear her properly.

“...die… me?”

The image of the scarred man appeared before her, making Jordane lose her balance. She stumbled, curling into a ball on the ground while covering her ears.

“Say your nightly prayers, girly. There is no escape.”

The hideous stranger’s voice echoed in her ears, followed by his maniacal laughter. It aggravated the pain in her head, gradually causing Jordane to lose consciousness.
