Chapter 29

RISSA'S POV

I felt like a lamb taken to the slaughter as Lily straight up bailed on me, leaving me to stutter in shame as I tried to obtain the necessary authorization we needed to go to the park before we died of boredom.

It's not like I couldn't just sprint out of the room at my own will—I mean, I'm an adult... but Drax gave me direct instructions to follow, and I didn't just want disobey him.

"Um... Drax?..." I started.

Suddenly, the scenario made me have a serious 'déjà vu' moment. It all felt too similar to me. Then my mind flashed back to a moment many years ago, when I was only five years old, and I was being questioned by my dad for throwing stones in the living room, and breaking the TV screen.

I sweated profusely while I fiddled with the lower part of my shirt, nervously, as I tried to give a believable lecture on why I was throwing stones at the TV.

Reenacting that scenario rekindled a sense of security in me, and for a second I felt like I had a father figure in my life.
